Should I change ATF at 30k for 06 Accord V6?

Is it better to use Amsoil ATF in your Honda and do longer intervals....

or just use the less expensive Honda Z1 ATF and change it more often ??

I prefer to do the former (use Amsoil ATF). I believe it can handle heat better and its additive package is better than the anemic stock fluid.

I have an 06 Civic and my plan of action is a drain and fill with Amsoil at 30,000 miles, then again at the next oil change this fall, and each oil change after that-about twice a year. The drain plug practically hits you in the eye when you are changing the engine oil anyway. The only thing that concerns me is properly measuring what I got out, in order to gauge how much to put back in. I understand there is a dipstick but the one on my car can be pretty tough to read. What about using an oil extractor? I assume the dipstick just sits in the pan, why not vacuum it out?

The Civic has an ATF life monitor that will display a code "3" in the Maintenance Minder readout when an ATF change is needed. The 06+ Civic is the only Honda model with an actual ATF life monitor.

The reason for removing the magnetic drain plug is to wipe the metal shavings off the plug. There is a lot of black "sludge" on the plug each time you remove it to change the fluid.

2.5 quarts is what you'll need to refill. Unit holds 6.0 quarts.

PS: Why are you waiting until 30k miles to drain and refill?

If you have an oil extractor, use it. I also wouldn't wait to 30k to start the maintenance program.

If you have a simple drain plug why not use it? Draining puts gravity to work for you.

Now, if you have no plug then suctioning out fluid would be a lot easier than droppping a pan.

So little fluid to protect such an expensive transmission.

make sure you buy extra ATF.
I was told by many on this site that the 2001 Civic will drain 3 qts via the drainplug. I had the car on ramps and when i measure how much was drained, it was about 4.8 qts! so off i went to AAP for some Castrol Import Vechicle ATF....and now I have 3.5qts of Amsoil sitting on the shelf waiting for their turn...after I get a few more.
