Short tripping Cruze 1.4T which oil?

I imagine they just settled in the bottom of the pan below the pickup.

I eventually traded the car in at less than 40K miles because by then I was pretty disgusted with it...the dealer refused to fix a bad flare with the first few 1-2 shifts on cold mornings because they said it was a "characteristic" of the car, distorted audio when listening at low volume levels, the driver side power window regulator would occasionally jam, it would frequently stink of Dexcool and needed to be topped off regularly...the dealers "solution" for that was to tape a piece of rubber hose to the top of coolant surge tank, and after they replaced the A/C compressor because it sounded like it had rocks in it--the A/C never worked correctly again. After the warranty was up I figured it was best to part with it before it got any worse.

It was a shame because I thought it was a really nice comfortable car. Must have been assembled on a Monday or something...

And this was with QSUD 5w-30 in the sump if I recall correctly. After that I limited my OCIs to 7500 mi and the "chunks" seamed to clear up.

I'd be equally concerned why the oil filter does not capture visible chunks.

Driving almost a thousand miles a week just about all highway I got up to 15,000 miles on Ultra Platinum, It was quiet and Blackstone I had plenty life left. My OLM is in percentage. But every 100 miles it dropped 10%. You can do the math from there. But it also did it when I just worked on the other side of town too. Even now with short tripping its still the same formula. But in my 12-15k runs I changed the filter 2 or 3 times depending my mood.

Something going on with that OLM - so much for trying to follow it.
Since mine goes 7k - normal PP or M1 is plenty good for me

On another note. The shop I work at is an Amsoil dealer (I know I know). But since its so hard to find Pennzoil Ultra at a reasonable price, I thought about switching to Amsoil XL 5w30 since I can get 5Qts for 30$ through my shop. Is it worth paying the extra 5$ or just stick with M1 EP. On the other hand I don't have to make a special trip, but also I can order the M1 EP through prime so.......whats everyone's opinion.

That would be too simple !

Not necessarily directed at the OP, but at several previous posters that mention conventional oil and the 10,000 mile OLM calibration on the 2011-2012 MY Cruzes:

Conventional oil is a NO-NO in a Cruze 1.4T. These cars have gotten a bad reputation due to several things, one of the biggest being turbo failure. That was largely due to the lubrication regimen in the owner's manual, which could be as little as Dexos1 syn blend every 10,000 miles and that was not adequate. The OLM was recalibrated in 2013, to more like 7,500 miles, and there was a programming update for earlier cars. Extended drains are possible but not a "given" - one must know what they are doing to safely run extended drains on a Cruze.

Don't believe me? Spend some time reading on Cruzetalk.

Is this engine related to the 1.5l turbo in the Malibu?

BITOG Thread on Malibu 1.5l DIT TSB

dishdude had a great post partway down the first page showing the actual TSB.

I'm an LSPI worrywart and would stick with the M1 EP as that is likely a low calcium formulation and less likely to cause LSPI problems. Once dexos1 Gen 2 (with an LSPI test) goes live in September, any oil with that license should be golden.
I believe that there is an article on the Amsoil website indicating that they are presently going through a major effort to reformulate their oils be more LSPI resistant. I know that Amsoil 5W30 SS had a massive calcium dose that would scare the crud out of me in a DIT engine, but, as I mention, I obsess about LSPI.
;^)

OK, I looked up the Amsoil LSPI page...note the "Coming Soon" at the bottom, I wouldn't count on them being there yet.

Amsoil on LSPI [/quote] This makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the input.

Shoot, my bad here...I looked at your sig and don't think that 2011 Cruze would be a DI engine, so you probably don't have to worry about LSPI.
As far as I can tell, the Cruze 1.4l went DIT in 2016.
I'm sure you'd still be fine with M1 EP, but I was probably wrong to suggest that Amsoil could be risky in your engine.
Sorry about that!!

No, the 2011-2016 Cruze 1.4T is a port-injected engine. The 2016- 1.4T is similar in displacement only - not sure if it's of the same engine family as the Malibu 1.5.
