Hi Guys

I common discussion that pops up in my car forums is that doing a 5,000km OCI (~3k miles) is better for your car.

I would assume this depends on the oil being used and the type of car use i.e. NA/Turbo-High performance.

I have been using Redline in my Nissan Skyline which runs about 600hp at the rear wheels and out of habbit I run it in my NA 2.0 FTO also and strted doing used oil analysis...however I havn't got enough results to show anything.

If you were using a Group IV+ such as M1/Redline/Motul 300V/GC/RP in a NA daily driven car I would assume a longer OCI would be easily possible (without needing UOA proof). I would be expecting 10,000+ kms (~6000miles) esp. in a climate like Australia which sees temps of 10-40 degrees C as its extreemes.

I guess its a difficult answer as all cars/applications and oils are different.

khunjeng, with Redline you should be good, but with 600 ponies at the rear wheel, you should be certain about the mods you have done. One UOA would really help and could tell you that you could go further.
Now allow me to poke a bit of fun at you, and don't take it seriously, as I sometimes am taken that way without intending to be. Mobil 1 a group IV+?

Check out the recent Mobil threads, seems much of their product could be group III.

yeah i dont use it personally and have never investigated but I had seen many people say it was so i just assumed..

I thought it was true group IV or is it only a special version? I will have a search.

What I was trying to understand is if I do some used oil analysis in say 2-3k intervals...would that be a good way to pick up trends faster instead of waiting say 10,000kms to get some results...

As I'm using redline, i assume it will take some time for the addatives to get to work, not sure how true that is on the second/third oil fills.

B00S I suspect the M1 he was refering to was either 0W-40 or Delvac 1. I seriously doubt that that Delvac 1 has any GIII and I have yet to see any evidence that the 0W-40 PCMO does either.

ok cool.

I'm not fussed but yeah Delvac gets rav reviews in my Skyline forum...if u can get it as its not easy here, good value for money. WIth M1 the 0W40 is the std product here in Aus...its seems to be a IV from what I can tell - from reading stuff here mainly...
