Shooting at WNY

That sucks.

Two incidents within a year or so at Naval Yards.

Our local incident was mentally instable civilian contractor did arson to the USS Miami which is never getting repaired.

Washington Navy Yard is HQ to our sea systems command. Different than an actual shipyard. FWIW. No idea of the situation at this point.

But mental instability is everywhere.

Prayers sent to all those involved in this incident. My wife is glued to the TV fearing it might happen on other Navy Bases today. A typical mother worried about her son on the other side of the country.

Reports getting worse. One shooter still caught in building. 12 dead.

Thoughts and prayers to the Navy and DoD police family.

There is at least one more, if not two in there The building is not secure - per all hands email originating from there, NOT a news article.

Please pay attention to what's going on.

There are always multiple gunmen reported, even from the authorities, eye in the sky etc... One "shooter" killed, and then within the next 48 hours only ever one in the first place.

So I heard all day.

Guess you missed the part that said "One gunman died in the shooting, and police are seeking another possible shooter.

And this:

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said authorities were seeking a potential second suspect, described as a black male, approximately 40 to 50 years old, 5 foot 10, 180 pounds, medium complexion with gray sideburns, wearing an olive military-style uniform and carrying "a long gun."

The very same day an apparent shooting outside of the White House. Somebody apparently shot at the White House and was arrested.

Probably just a coincidence.

Guess you missed that I am providing info from an all hands (NAVY) email, not some reporter. That is, the folks IN the building. One of the O-6s I work with saw the gunman before going into lockdown. I have heard other details from folks in the building, but I will not share as they were not from an all hands.

Right or wrong, Im relaying info from direct sources, not reporters and the news, FWIW. Youre the checks and balances

Even then the story is developing. No official (Navy) mention yet, but it looks like it is down to one, which is indeed more plausible given what the situation seems to look like.

Shannow is exactly right, and it was never sensible that it would be more than one, once the basis of it being a contractor was released. But Im just updating from the internal messages coming out.

There were rumors of a shooting at/in Bolling too at one point. Where I was today (DC area) didnt lock down, nor did many other DoD facilities.

For much of the day, authorities said they were looking for a possible second attacker who may have been disguised in an olive-drab military-style uniform. But by late Monday night, they said they were convinced the attack was the work of a lone gunman, and the security lockdown around the area was eased.

"We do now feel comfortable that we have the single and sole person responsible for the loss of life inside the base today," Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

It very well could of been two. Better safe than sorry.

Here's some background on the guy: http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news...d=hero_media__3

At least he'll never hurt anyone again.

Yeah, seems things are calming down. Admiral Hilardes (COMNAVSEA) didn't state names in his latest communication, but they are on the news now.

The shooter apparently was a contractor doing NMCI tech refresh. I think most Navy folks could insert a joke here, but this is a solemn occasion. Just glad this criminal is done for.

Thoughts and prayers for those lost, injured, or just cooped up all day.

Sad to hear it this.

Caught a bit about this on NPR on the drive in. Sounds like he had mental issues--well, no duh--he was usually a good, nice guy; held a job as a waiter and was known by a lot of people (they had several interviews lined up with people who knew him). Yet he'd been arrested at least once, had a couple of incidents with the law, possibly either anger episodes--or simply wasn't himself when the anger hit. I'm sure you can read all about it elsewhere.

What I found interesting was that, on NPR, they said he was a bit of a mystery, since, with a few hours of looking one can find lots of info about a person. By their Twitter account, and their Facebook. Which this person lacked. Which I found interesting, not in a good way, as it almost sounded like they were chiding him for not being well adjusted and blogging about his life every 5 minutes. I'm curious if that meme will show up elsewhere in the news.
