I don't see much constructive thinking here. Gun owners aren't going to be able to convince gun control advocates ofthe important role an armed citizenry plays in prevention of tyranny and the anti-gun folks will never convince gun owners that relinquishing our liberty will result in more security. In fact, I think there's a Benjamin Franklin quote to this effect.
So, what are we Americans going to do? Here's an idea where I think we can all work together. Whatever your political position on guns, I think we can all agree that the problem here is inadequate security in our schools. Our young people are our most precious resource, more valuable than money or material things and yet we don't protect them from evil in this world. Since the pro-gun lobby is not going to get the school gun-free zone laws reversed which would allow qualified teachers, administrators and parents to carry in schools, perhaps we can all agree to make an investment in adequate, professional, armed security to protect our children. I am virulently anti-taxes because I believe our governments are too big, too wasteful, have too much money and power and interfere in our lives too much. However, I will agree to a property tax increase specifically for the purpose of providing the above described security. I believe a rational anti-gun person will agree on this course of action. If not, I'd like to see a better idea that will protect our children NOW.
