I seem to be spending (wasting?) a lot on paint lately. Any hack DIY'ers bothered attempting to get a commercial account for the discount?

Planning is the key to saving money at SW. They will periodically run 30% off sales on one thing or another and you need to be ready to pounce. My SW store is next door to the donut shoppe so I happen to know deck paint is 30% off at the moment.

I find it's really not worth the effort. They may give you a reduction on one or two lines of paint products but at the end of the day I find the better options at the big box stores work just as good, and are usually priced better even after any discounts from SW.

It's sort of the same reason I seldom shop at NAPA auto parts any more.

No friends or family that has a SW commercial account, that would let you use it? A second cousin three times removed? The childhood friend that is now a contractor?

Don't they run sales even better than that a few times a year? Not sure, as I always get everything in the SW store at 40 - 50% off by using my daughter's employee pricing. But I've been told that they run 40% storewide sales from time to time.

Lowes and Home Depot can't touch the prices I get on brushes, rollers, masking supplies and such, when I get them on discount at SW. For that matter, the last time I looked I was shocked how expensive paint has gotten, at least at Lowes and HD. I don't think that paint at Lowes gets close SW discount pricing.

As said, planning is key. Sign up and SW will send you notifications for each of their sales events.

Not my experience, particularly in regards to quality. HD Behr paint is nothing like it was 20 years ago. I can't speak for Lowes paint, as I haven't used it for a very long time, but even the SW paints sold at Lowes are formulated specifically for Lowes, and are not the same as what is sold in SW stores.
