Hello noob here. Viewed the forum for several years off and on desided to join in. This is tractor transmission fluid that is rated GL4 and has a weight of 10w30. It seems like a good match for the AX15 manual transmission in my 95 jeep wrangler. I can get the spirax for free. Any reason i shouldnt run it in my jeep?

Thanks

Not the same vehicle obviously, but I use it in the rear differential of my Kawasaki Brute Force 750 (it has a wet brake). If it meets the required specification, I would not hesitate to use it--S4 TXM is great oil.

Thanks for your reply. It calls for GL5 75w90 gear oil in the owners manual but it is said to be a missprint. The factory part number is a syntbetic 10w30 motor oil. I have been running strait 30wt rotella motor oil that says on the back of the bottle good for gear boxes and is transmission recommended but it grinds a little in the winter. GL5 isnt recommended for brass syncros which the jeep has. Im just guessing it will be fine but was mainly curous because tractors are slow and was afraid maybe it didnt have anti foam additives and the higher speed of the transmission spinni g would cause issues. IDK though.

Thanks

Yes, because the UTTO 10W30's KV@40*C of 60 cSt and KV@100*C of 9.4 cSt is a tad low ....
for a Jeep manual trans application, though it has all the required additives.
A 75W90 or 80W90 GL4 would offer stronger components wear protection than the above UTTO ...... hands down.

Ok thanks but im new at this and about half of what you said is pig latin to me. Sorry, im just a slow hillbilly, be patient... lol. UTTO? KV? All these acronyms! The factory part number spec is 10w30 motor oil so Spirax is different? I used royal purple 75w90 and it shifted like really bad so idk what to use. Redline mtl is a favorite with jeep owners but like i said earlier i can get the spirax for free and the mtl is crazy expensive.
Im here to learn, you guys are the experts, im just trying to get a understanding.

Thank you very much for your replys.

zeng is saying the UTTO (Universal Tractor Trasmission Oil) has a low viscosity because its a 10W30, but he likes really thick stuff.
If the factory put in 10W30 motor oil, then, if anything the Spirax would be better. If you've already tried a 75W90 then I don't see the point in trying it again. I would try the Spirax and see what happens. It is GL4 rated as well, according to the PDS.

Yep, realise that you had had cold winter shift issues with 75W90 and straight 30wt rotella as well.
As Colt suggested above, lighter GL4 oils like 10W30 would be among your options to compromise with this issue....and operate it on lightduty mode where you can ........ until such time the mechanical/design deficiencies, if any, are sorted out.

I changed the fluid in the 95 wrangler manual 5 speed transmission today. I had Rotella T3 strait 30 wt in it. It shifted good in the warm months but didn't shift well in the cold part of winter. I drained it and there was very little fuzz on the drain plug. I filled with spirax S4 TXM. I drove out the road a few miles and it shifted roughly the same except 2nd gear went in a little smoother I hope that trend lasts through winter, which can't get here soon enuff as I believe some recently departed left the gate open, 97 and high humidity is absolutely detestable.

I almost didn't use it because I read it had friction modifiers for use with wet brakes. I guess I'll see.

Looks like this Wrangler manual trans really hates thicker oil, even though it's marginal.

No,my guess is this (extra over)wet brakes FM would not cause negative side-effects on synchronizers.
