Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 Oil

I would like to know if it is ok to run Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 in the summer time or year round in my 2006 Dodge Cummins Diesel truck?

It will be fine to run 5w40 year round.

At work, we have a small fleet of medium duty trucks, including a Freightliner with a Cummins 5.9 which was the engine in the older Dodges, and I run 0w40 synthetic in them year round.

What George said!!! Great Oil.
Might think about changing it 2 times a yr. depending on your mileage.
Once before summer and Once before winter.

Hey McBride, does your Oil Guard canister get hot from top to bottom when your oil is at operating temp?

Hi Arkapigdiesel,

Yes my OilGuard canister does get hot from top to bottom. Are you having problems with your unit? Have you checked for oil return back to your engine thru your return line? If you are returning the oil back to your engine thru the valve cover cap, you can carefully while the engine is running remove the cap to see if the oil is coming thru the cap back into the engine.
