My car hates shell gas, and it makes my fuel sender unit go crazy and i know they have a history with their "additives"
anyone have experiences like this?

No. I have not had any problem with Shell gas. In my trucks both of them run better on Shell then 76 and Arco. The only one that feels better on my butt dyno is Chevron. But it cost 10 cents more a gallon around here. So I stick with Shell.

DINO_NO,

Simple. try another gas. I too haven't had any problem but cars are funny. Perosnally I use Arco or Conoco 76. Chevron's wayyyy too expensive here in Los Angeles. How others can affor them I don't know. I'd rather use a non top tier gas and pour a bottle of Techron in once per month.
Los Angeles just takes too much gas money outta my pocket.

thanks for the input guys, here all of the gas is the same price. unless your buying above regular
I'm sticking with petro canada and chevron for the time

Actually because of Californa's clean air laws. I think that all gasoline sold here have the twice amount of cleaning additives as mandated by the EPA to qualify as top tier.

Arco and 76 in my trucks performance=ok
Shell=excellent
Cheveron=a tad bit better than Shell.

Arco 89 octane= 2.67
76 89 octane= 2.73
Shell 89 octane= 2.74
Chevron 89 octane= 2.93

Both of those are Top-Tier also.

Wish my area has three different Top-Tier offerings.

Is your gas filter clean and working properly? I worked for 5 years for a Shell distributor (the largest in N.M) and we never had a problem that we knew of. We supplied fuel to over 90% of the state. I am not saying you do not have a problem but you might want to check everything out.

My recollection isn't 100%, but a couple of years ago there were confirmed cases of Shell additives attacking compounds used in the fuel level sender units of several manufacturers including BMW.

I *thought* Shell made changes to fix that. I mostly use Shell V-Power at this point in my '98 BMW and have never had any sort of sender malfunction. It's possible that a partially corroded/failed sender could still act up on Shell gas? We don't have Chevron in Eastern Canada and I'm not sold on the level of oxygenates and ethanol in Sunoco but there's a very good chance I'm under-informed on the current state of affairs.

I also *thought* I remembered someone like Terry indicate that FP60 was able to fix the senders and/or prevent recurrence.

The new Techron (Plus) advertises it can clean up the fuel sending units that get deposits from sub-par gasoline. Something to do with sulfur deposits or something. My mother-in-law's truck had a wild fuel gauge, jumping all around constantly, with her fuel warning light going on and off every few seconds. Two bottles of Techron (she has a big tank), and the problem has so far gone away. Definitely worth the $7 or so (Advance Auto had a two for one sale), compared to $274 for a new fuel pump/FSU plus labor to install.

I'd definitely try the Techron before doing anything else expensive. There may be other gasoline additives that can do the same thing as the Techron. I'd check out the major ones' labels to see if they make the claim of cleaning FSU's. But I know the Techron Plus makes the claim, because I poured it in her tank, and very shortly afterwards while I was driving (less than 100 miles), the problem suddenly disappeared and hasn't come back.

I use Shell gas with no problems. Most of the Shell stations around here are pretty new, and appear to be well maintained. My car recommends premium, and the Shell 93 works well.

I too think my cars runs best on shell gasoline. Second best is BP. I run 87 octane.

Shell 91 V-Power and FP here...no problems. Cleanest tailpipe from what I can notice vs. Sunoco and Esso. And best fuel economy to boot.

Shell V-Power has about 5 times the normal additives I understand. Here V-Power is 93 Octane. I run a mix of 50% regular and 50% V-Power. Result is more additives and about 90 Octane. I too use Lucas UCL with every tank.

Works for me.

The mid-grade pump mixes regular and V-Power for a similar boost in additives but in the proportion for 89 octane.

Works for me.

I think most Shell's run 3 tank set-ups, one for each grade. the 87 and 89 contain twice the mandated EPA detergent, while the 93 has 5 times.

Sunoco blends fuel at the pumps, but not most Shell's.

I have had great success with Shell. I use the V-Power. I but the 10 cents bullet, but it is packed with detergents, and I beleive that it also has an upper cylinder lubricant as well. I new that a few years back, Shell had to dole out some cash to fix some fuel related problems, but that was I think about 10 years ago. I run the gas in my Sunfire and Kia Sorento, and they love it.
