Ok, so my friend is a facebook junkie (she's a very Hot late 20's teacher) she's very well put together and shares photos of herself all the time on Facebook, sometimes showing just enuff skin to gain attention (i guess she thinks this is flirty) She's also taken pictures of 60' tv, surround sound, all the electronic goodies (bragging i guess) she's also put pictures of her house on there and her current town (its very small) and all this stuff went on FB as well..

So today i hop on the social network and Bam.. she's terrified becouse someone tried breaking into her house in the middle of the night, through the back door..

All her friends panic, and go into the "are you ok ?" "do you own a gun" im so scared for you.. bla bla bla...

I did a little preaching to her.. lecturing more like it.. pointing out the things she's broadcasting to the world...
and made many suggestions, security tips, ect.ect.

My point: I dont have one, im just venting.. we've all seen the horror movies where some ubber hot chick eats it becouse she's stupid.. everyone else can see it comming but she's just to stupid to see it herself..

Agreed, why put your life online when anybody can browse the pictures?

If you're bent on posting everything to FB, at least restrict the pictures to friends. Some photos it doesn't matter, but sensitive/revealing photos such as house shots from the street, and "bragging" photos should not be posted.

Probably the pictures uploaded from her smartphone leaked information about her location. People need to learn how to protect their private information. That's why I don't use my real name in any forum.

All it takes is a friend of a friend to see something, open their mouth, and suddenly everyone has that house in their sights.

I like posting pictures here, on fb, etc. But some folks just put too much.

And some folks reap what they sew, not much you can do about it. She maybe hot and never got real respect since about age 12, so doesn't know how to act properly.

I have a friend from high school who does similar. She is very good looking and is in incredible shape.

Her posts go on and on about her divorce. Her photos are typically a bathing suit. I remember in high school that she was sent home due to improper clothing etc.

Her posts talk about relentless men who bother her. She can easily hold her own.

It makes interesting reading at least and photos....

How do you know it has anything to do with Facebook? I'm sure any passerby would notice a 60 foot TV.

A lot of FB users are too lazy to take a few minutes and go through their privacy settings and customize - then they freak out when stuff get noticed.

I suspect FBers are attention freaks. Look at me, see my pictures, I'm hot..look at my 'stuff'... see how many 'friends' I have. Then 'complain' about all the ills that go with it

I'm on FB and am amazed at how much info people put out there, and we're not talking 20-somethings who don't know better either. Many friends post that they're away on vacation, out for the evening or whatever.

I don't post stuff like that until after I've come back. But that's me.

Lots of girls never had any attention as a child and will do silly things for attention as an adult (doesn't matter their education level). Sounds to me like this woman is insecure and craving attention posting those photos.

Me as well....people just don't realize....

Bamboo: thats funny.. in a twisted not so funny kind of way..

Pottymouth: its only a assumption, but i recall thinking a few months back when she had baithing suit/summerbreak pictures up, then all the electronics, then her house.. I remember thinking it wasnt smart.. thinking "who see's this?" then a few months later she's crying and scared..

I deal in security, im trained to notice risk.. I seen Risky online behavior, but what am i suppose to say ? hey "friend" im noticing your almost nude photos, your new expensive household goods, everyone can see where you live...STOP !! .. No, then im the creepy guy thats pointing it out.. I dont prefer to be seen as everyones "father/know it all", but i did see the writing on the wall...

Ive heard from other friends that this is very true of her, i can believe it..

I stopped posting where I was, or what I was doing on facebook quite a while ago.

I don't want 200 of my "friends" to know that I'm not home, especially if some of them are vaguely friends from high school.

I put up a few vacation photos, and that is about it. They go up after I'm back home. I have no idea why people use it for live pictures, or check-in which is even worse. A friend of mine was checking into restaurants and bars in Hawaii just today.

I have maybe one status update per month, I don't want people to know what I'm doing. I mostly use facebook just to catch up on what other people I know or knew are doing.

Very easy to exploit the vast amount of personal information on FB...your friend is lucky that it was only attempted break in...

In the meantime, I know folks (who will remain nameless) that do not have FB accounts because of their jobs (think special forces & intelligence specialists...) and the potential for explotation of that personal data. I have an FB account...but relatively little is on there...for similar reasons...

I don't want the world knowing everything about me...even BITOGers...though I think you guys are great!

My facebook account has a fake birthday. I get well wishes every year... on the wrong date!
