ServicePro Full Synthetic 0w-20

[The Critic]

My local Toyota dealer, on the Central Coast, uses ServicePro 0w-20 for the vehicles that require 0w-20. On my Prius, this means they will be using this oil at the recommended 10k intervals.

Does anyone know who makes this stuff?

Here's the PDS here. This is PDF, btw.

It looks thin at operating temps, with a low VI. My guess is that it's a lot cheaper for the dealer than the Toyota oil. My other guess is that Toyoto Motor Co. doesn't have a lot of input on what its franchise dealers carry. The local dealers around here all seem to carry different brands; Castrol, PZ, Mobil. They do all sell the Toyota 0W20, but who knows what they're using for bulk oil??

You could be right, perhaps Craft is just a distributor. They also list Exxon and other oils in their product line

Warren Oil (NOT WPP) produces Service Pro.

Craft oil and Western are distributors. Craft Oil owns a portion of AIOD.

We sell it where I work (very large oil distributor), and a lot of Honda and Toyota dealers buy it. It is very reasonably priced.

I put it in my girlfriends Ford Freestyle last week, and it is nice and quiet. I let the bottles drain into a pint measuring container, and the oil was very, very thin at 70 degree ambient temperatures. Should be an excellent winter oil.

I'm nearly positive it's made by Warren Oil.

The spec sheets are available from Warren, and the one titled PDS - Coastal Full Synthetic GF-4 Motor Oil.pdf has the exact same data as the Service Pro sheet.

The 5w30 doesn't match, because it is their other 5w30 synthetic.

I thought Toyota only allowed 10,000 mile service when using Toyota 0W20? I thought you had to shorten the interval for any other oil (including other 0W20)?

It's my personal feeling that ANY 0W-20 oil is going to be a very high-quality oil in general.

To make something that thin, that can take the daily 'beating' an oil has to take in a car, it has to be pretty decent quality stuff. Not like 10w30 cheap oil, that can be made with group I and a bit of II base oils.

No, the interval is only shortened to 5,000 miles if 5w-20 (presumably non-synthetic) is used. Any synthetic 0w-20 is OK for the 1-yr/10,000 mile interval.

76 produces a conventional 0w-20 oil.
