A load of crude oil is on its way to Alaska. Sort of selling coal to Newcastle?

The Marathon refinery in Cook Inlet is accepting a load of crude oil originating in Vancouver, BC from the Trans Mountain Pipeline. The refinery was already taking loads that were originating from North Dakota in the past. It’s a competitive business!

Ok don’t understand this posting. Wonder how much crude from Alaska goes to Canada or USA etc

Not unusual for them to import oil as the Swanson River field winds down.

They're not set up for the Valdez tankers, and I doubt those tankers can handle the 20+' tides in Nikiski.

No Alaskan oil is delivered to Canada or exported to other countries or even delivered to Hawaii due to an act of congress when the North Slope was developed.

Alaskan crude makes its way to Washington State and California. Alaskan oil production peaked at around 2 million bbls per day in the mid 80’s and is now closer to 1/2 a million bbls per day. Most of it is sent to the US west coast and a relatively small amount is refined in two refineries near Valdez for Alaskan use.

All shipments of Alaskan crude have to shipped on American flagged tankers.

The tanker from Vancouver that delivered oil to the Marathon refinery at Cook Inlet is a Panamax Class tanker that holds just over a half million bbls. Like all tankers reporting to Alaska , it is double hulled.
