Search Function

We do listen to you comments. As a result of the many complaints concerning the BITOG search function we now have Google Search. That will give you a wide range of results with no ads. Wayne Willson installed it and we have been checking to make sure everything works correctly. We have a 1 year contract (it's not free) that I plan to renew each year unless we find something better. I hope this meets your needs.

The 'Turn off left column' option must be set to 'no' in your personal preferences to use it. I was stumped until I figured that out. Clicking on search at the top does the normal search function

Where are you seeing this? There is no such option under "edit preferences" under My Stuff on my computer.

My suggestion is to increase the width of the left panel (take at least 3/4 of the screen) and move the "Donate to BITOG" button on the top and make it double height double wide and blinking

Removing that option was in bad taste

Vikas,

Fine, we'll stop forcing the left pane to be visible. All I ask that you do is every single time someone complains about the board's native search and they have the left pane hidden - you take your time to explain to them how to make the left pane visible. Do we have a deal?

The left panel was restored and I did not even had to do anything! Thanks Wayne!!

I was browsing this forum now and it took me few minutes before I realized that the left pane was not there anymore.

Ironically, when the left pane appeared, that was the first thing that I noticed but when it was fixed it took me a while before I noticed it. That is human nature.

After having some PM's with Wayne, I believe it must be genuine oversight in programming and he did not really mean to take away the choice. I have PM'd him again. Please give him benefit of doubt and I am sure he will fix it.

I ask Wayne to keep the google search visible at all times. There has been so many complaints concerning the old search function that I want all members to be aware of the new one. This will also help cut down on duplicate post because member can check to see if information has been posted.
