Jerk.

He can easily sell the exhaust to another on a Subaru forum.

You can get used exhausts in decent condition for little money as folks switch them out for the power upgrade although it requires tuning or an upgraded ECU Map.

186k is a lot of miles.

Who cares on bit if the door was repainted. The car has 186k and it has no effect on the price at this point. This is not a pristine new car with <70k.

lol.. door not that much of a concern.. more how she runs. going to be loud because exhaust is shot but I will see how it goes. I also up until this point thought was 5 speed and looking back in emails there so proof of this.. which for me is important be a manual not a automatic.

When looking at older cars you usually have the option of picking two from the following three: Fast, Cheap, Reliable.

If you need a cheap reliable car, you certainly won't find a fast one that isn't beat to [censored].

I have friends who are really into Subies, and they won't touch them if they have over 150k on them. Reason being is that they are usually beat on. I think if you pay even $3100 for that you are being ripped off. Right now is the WORST time to look for a Subaru in the northeast, and cheap ones that aren't beat to [censored] simply are hard to find.

If the trunk rusted so much that he had to replace it, imagine what other problems the body has. "A few small bits of rust here and there" usually becomes a lot more rust once you are there in person.

If I were you, I'd save my money and wait for a better vehicle, you will be glad you did.

this thread is pointless. what exactly are you asking if not just trolling for conjecture. buy it and do not expect much. move along.

I have a 06 Saturn Ion in driveway that $2.5K from eBay year ago and is reliable but bores me. So looking for something had has both. There is a risk with everything, but being have knowledge (owned same model 8 years) and mechanic in area works on these types cars this seems compared other I suggested, the best fit.

1) Find another working WRX for 3.5K. Hel_l find one decent one owner for under $5K.

2) The rust issue with trunk been posted twice. It poorly installed by dealer.

Now doing some research what are the chance or likelihood of being able to patch the fuel tank or fuel lines compared to having to replace the whole fuel tank, filter, and pump. I am seeing threads saying most time tubes leading from top of the fuel tank go back and generally not the fuel tank itself.

Otherwise the general practice is replace the fuel pump, filter and tank when you drop the tank.

Have you searched for a Forester XT at all? Might be able to find one less used & abused for around the same price. Can still be made to go fast + more ground clearance for winter...

You can't patch a gas tank if it's rusted all over. IDK subies but you might have a bad sender unit or gasket or hose, there are lots of issues that can form on the top of a tank.

Does anyone recognize the tires? They look like ordinary all seasons to me, but could plausibly be a performance tread.

Good point. There was also a a turbo version of the Subaru Baja, which was like a 4 door El Camino.

So now the work begins..

Needs rear rotors (Ordered rockauto)
StopTech Street Pads
Mobil 1 (EP 5w30)
Fuel Filler (Rockauto)
TBE (catless setup w/up-pipe included)
Side mirror replacement

Tasks
1) Fuel tank leak figured out (fuel filter installed)
2) New catless exhaust installed (including up-pipe)
3) Drivers side mirror replaced
4) Tune installed for stage 2
5) Lower Control Arms need be replaced (dealer re-call - believe get a aliment w/this recall)
6) Basic oil change Mobil EP (previous owner run M1 every 5K miles)

Enjoy!

Loved my sold 04 WRX wagon as a winter car. Not so much as a daily driver.

At least I still have wife's 2005 Legacy GT wagon 5mt that is basically a grown up's WRX with nice interior.
