sealant versus wax

Good morning! i am making a good effort to wash and wax my cars. autogeek claims that a good carnauba wax will last 6-8 weeks. they claim that sealants are polymers, and that Klasse high gloss sealant glaze can last ONE YEAR!

if true, that would really help me! i live in massachusetts, and we have real winters with salt on the roads.
Is that true? can sealants last that much longer?

I have been using Klasse AIO & SG for 10 years. Under the right conditions I suppose a sealant could last 1 year. I detail my car twice a year (spring/fall) and in my environment the coverage is about gone (parked outside 24/7). It really depends on your environment. Many people will top a sealant with wax for added depth.

BTW ..there are other makes of sealants put there so don't get married to Klasse. I've heard they changed to a low VOC formula a few years ago which degraded its performance but I don't know by how much.

I prefer a Polymer protectant like NuFinish. Long lasting and good protection, including UV. I have been using NuFinsh for about 15 years now and very satisifed. Normally lasted about one year when I lived in IL and about 8 months here in Florida.

Klasse doesn't go a year. 6 months, maybe. I've used it tons of times.

I've never used Klasse. When I called AutoGeek the guy I talked to recommended Rejex for a sealant and said it is what he uses. I just put it on three vehicles. Only been on a month, but very happy so far with it.

Most waxes do last between 1 to 2 months. The exception bring Collinite that can last 3-6 months.
Most sealants last 4-6 months. Under perfect conditions, there are a couple that might last a year like Duragloss.
The reason people prefer wax over sealants isn't because of the longevity factor but because of the glow that wax gives that most prefer over the look that sealants give. Many, like myself, go with the best of both worlds and lay down sealant first and then a day later wax.

There is a sealant that is reasonably durable but leaves the carnauba look/warmth/glow behind. That would be Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant. It is expensive and may not be worth it to some folks. Autogeek carries it.

sealants actually bond to the paint allowing it to last longer, wax, like carnuaba sits on top of the paint still offering protection. sealants usually offer a mirror like shine while carnuaba leaves a deep wet look. you can also use carnuaba on top of a sealant as long as you let the sealant cure on the paint after wiping it off for at least 12 hours depending on the conditions
