How can they label that "Prime" rib when the USDA grade is "choice"?

It’s technically from the primal rib section and has nothing to do with the meat grading. That could make some decent ribeyes.

Years ago, Winco had whole bone in prime rib roast advertised for $ 2.99 per pound. I got to the store and they had boneless roasts. I said, "Someone is getting fired for this one." I bought two (limit 2). One was the roast beast for parents, brothers and sisters at Christmas dinner a few days later. Delicious.

Got the same deal at Kroger years ago.
They had a sign up in the meat department and none on hand.
Had to ask the guy to bring a couple out.
Roasted one and cut the other into steaks.
I'd say that someone must have inadvertently ordered a whole lot more of this cut than the store could realistically sell at normal price.
