Scissor lift - ATF

Hi Guys,

I have a scissor lift, manufacturer is out of business so I can’t find specs, but I believe last I used generic ATF

I need 18L

I have on hand old sealed stock of g 052 162 a2 transmission fluid

Or

Shell spirax ATF s6 A668 oil

Would that be suitable

I think 99% of manufacturers use a 32 Hydraulic oil

Since you used the ATF last time with no issues, I would use your existing stash of fluid.

Assuming that you used a traditional Dex/Merc previously and nothing bad has occurred, either of those you have now would also work fine. Being used as a hydraulic fluid, it's not really that critical.

Our Genie before the seals went to hell said use ATF ONLY inside the unit. It used it for lifting and driving the wheels.

Are there notable differences between ATF and hydraulic fluid that would matter in this application?

I'm especially OCD about following manufacturer specifications regarding aerial lifts and don't want to discover an issue while 30 feet in the air. People die in them annually, but usually from operational mistakes, not from equipment maintenance neglect.

Funny enough in that manual it does list Dex III/Mercon as an optional fluid so it can use it in a pinch but isn't the best choice. The seals on ours went to hell with age, the unit is over 10 years old and sat more than it was used after it was purchased used from a rental company. It was PMed every year though.
