Just seen the XB at local dealership that was something like an olive , army green . It has plenty of room , w/ side curtain airbags , side impact airbags , 4 speed auto , 2.4 ltr. engine ( Scion TC ) , 23 city / 28 highway ( Toyota usually 2-3 m.p.g. higher than sticker ) , 16" tires ( same as MATRIX ), tilt steering , and many other features for little less than $17,000 . Can't wait for the XD relaese , plan to test drive both .

The 2.4L scion engine is notorious for getting poor gas mileage... it's the only complaint Tc owners seem to have about their cars. Expect low 20's in the boxy xB.

The 2.4 in the Scion is the same 2.4 used in the new Camry. Some people report lower-than-expected MPG, others report getting EPA or higher.
I hope they sell a lot of these because I laugh my a$$ off every time I see one.

Two things:
The Automatic tC get's better highway fuel economy than the 5 speed.
Second, I suspect a lot of the tC Boyz don't drive with the lightest feet.
With that said, my 5 speed tC turns higher RPMs at 70 MPH than oilbabe's Camry with the same engine, but an automatic transaxle. I don't recall the difference, but it's significant.
With that said, I believe I've averaged 28.0 MPG in 17541 miles, and that's probably about 25% city, 75% highway. Certainly not great numbers for a 2900# manual transmission car, but not bad either.
I would like to see Toyota put a 6 speed manual transmission in there, so you could have the close ratios for performance, yet have a significant overdrive for those long highway runs.
But if you want fuel economy, I think the automatic is the better choice in the tC and probably in the new xB as well.

I like them ...in a oddball kinda way. I'd love to pick one up in a few years ..after the younger crowd crashes a few of them ...put some wizbang turbo kit on it.
They are butt ugly ..but driving a clown car around that's a sleeper has its appeal.
I actually prefer it to the mini-armored car look of the Honda Element.

As soon as I close in on a car I may like, there is a big let down.
Though designed/marketed to the youth market, Toyota was surprised that the average age of Scion Xb buyers was up in the close to old coot age.... somewhere in the 40s, I believe.

Appears that something about the Xb makes it appealing to oldsters, also.
Decent mileage, low selling price, room to haul stuff, Toyota reliability (as perceived by many), are possible reasons for old skinflints to buy the vehicle.
Heck, this old coot is considering selling the Silverado and grabbing an Xb. Well, as long as there is room enough to sleep in it since what with the eventual economic collapse I will likely be living in a vehicle again.

When it comes to the xB, you either love it or hate it. I drive one as a company car. Darn near quit my job when they told me I was going to be driving the thing. Fortunately, fellow employees told me that I had lot my mind turning down a free vehicle that is accompanied with free gas!!! I have spent maybe 50 bucks on gas in the past 2 years! But back to the xB, it has grown on me. I might even buy the thing when it comes off lease. The opinions of the car are a mixed bag. I have never gotten more jears and laughs from any other car, yet I have never gotten more compliments from any other car. The little box on wheels has kind of brought back a second youth.
