Great cars; when I look for my next track toy I hope that upgraded brakes and @100 bhp will be optional extras.

Actually it has decent brakes but like many cars it has the wrong pads for track use.

Reminds me of the 370z in that regard.

What it really needs is some torque in the mid range

The turbo version of the 2.0L DI motor is being developed in 2014 Forester and WRX. Hopefully it will shoe into this and maybe tweaked for more HP/torque.

Forester specs are: 250 hp @ 5,600 rpm* 258 lb.-ft. peak torque @ 2,000-4,800 rpm

They need an STI version of this car.

I've heard that it needs better pads as well as bigger brakes in general. I have yet to drive one.

One of my neighbors bought a red one, looks great. I haven't asked him to let me drive it yet, but I plan to once he gets it broken in.

Looks like a really fun car. I have heard that they are even more fun with the Prius tires specifically because they slide around so easily and predictably.

Its a 2700lb car with 12" rotors and twin piston calipers. It has plenty of braking, even for track duty. OEM pads are not suitable for track use, but with the right pads, the brake system is plenty adequate.
With good tires it'll stop from 60mph to 0 in about 106ft, which is pretty good for a street car. With the Prius tires it'll do it in about 110ft.

About the only complaint I've heard from actual owners of the car is that there is a bit of firewall flex, softening the pedal feel under hard braking. Several aftermarket vendors already offer solutions for under $100 however.

About the only complaint I have after 1200 miles is that the paint is soft and scratches easily, and the interior panels rattle. For a Japanese car, I expected better from the interior.
That said, this car vibrates so much from the Power-train and suspension, that making it 100% rattle free probably wasn't possible without adding some weight, and the light weight is what makes this car fun.

Also, in cold weather it shifts like [censored]. Second gear is hard to get into, and third gear grinds. A drain and fill with better trans fluid is definitely on my list of things to do.

^^^Nice comments, thanks for some real world input.

In the latest Car and Driver they beat one up pretty hard at VIR and the brakes were a bit soft pretty quickly. This is consistent with many different track rat cars I have run for decades. Normally the factory selects a quiet smooth pad for the street.

People need to remember that those big brake packages add considerable weight which is not always a good thing. My car is an excellent example as it weighs around 200-250 pounds more than a regular 5.7 car mostly due to huge brembos and big wheels and tires.
