Schaeffer's Engine Tear Down Video

These guys seem barely qualified to make statements about engine teardowns. This is my opinion after watching this video and listening to them. I like how clean the engine looks inside, and the low wear does not surprise me.
 
All Road milage. That 4.6 is natorious for getting high milage out of them. I honestly dont feel the oil played much of a factor in getting to 500k miles. Today semi syns I feel would leave the same clean engine behind with the given driving habit.

Not sure who the guys in the white shirts are, I think one works direct for Schaeffer's and another one is a rep like Salesrep is. I believe the gentle that appears later on looking at the piston dressed in the tie is the President of Schaeffer's. Hoping Salesrep can verify.
 
i like schaeffer's honest approach.they don't seem to try and fool anyone or make extremely exaggerated claims.they give clear information on what your getting with there products.

i'd rather buy products and deal with a smaller yet successful company like schaeffer,than buy from bigger name brands that are not as straight-forward.

The first two gentleman in the video are Tim McElligott from our tech dept. Tim is Schaeffers mining and industrial manager. Doug Rogers is the other gentleman, who is a salesmen extraordinaire from Kansas City. Doug works with some of the largest fleets in the US representing Schaeffer's fuel treatments and engine oils.
The other two are the current and past CEO and the current and past President.

They said it was a double-overhead cam engine because there were 2 cams?? Ha-ha !! Shows what they know about engines!

They don't even know that DOHC engines have 2 cams per head not one cam per head. Everyone knows those Ford modular truck engines are SOHC engines.

Don't say it -- I know that Ford also makes a DOHC version of the modular engine -- but that wasn't what was in the video.
 
Well, you have to realize neither of those two are mechanics. Someone tore the engines down and they just wanted to know what it looked liked. I think I heard one of them say in a joking manner that he had never seen a complete engine torn down.

The internal parts did look very good for 500K. Probably the only thing they really needed to do was replace the broken cam chains and the tensioners.

Those vans are driven in a courier service and you know they get the snot ran out of them.
 
Yes 4.6 DOHC are in the Thunderbird body RWD Mark 8. The navigator has 5.4 DOHC. The Mustang Cobra has had either 4.6 or 5.4 DOHC depending on model, i.e. COBRA.


Back to the video, when the guys started talking I couldn't take them seriously. They didn't present data with numbers. They said the engine was clean but then said alittle gunk or something to that effect when they showed the crank. So I wasn't impressed with the video. I don't believe the video shows the motor oil's influence on engine life.
 
That engine looks great for 500K. I know the 4.6 motors are good but 500K out of anything is impressive! Good oil, good engine. Could have been put back in service for sure. I wonder how the internals of that million mile van look? That would be cool to see.

I've got a Lincoln Mark VIII that has the 4.6/32 valve DOHC. Basically the same motor as the one put in the Mustang. Somewhat of a beach to change the oil filter, but a good motor.
