I agree very interesting

However, a couple quick comments...

1 - It shows how different engines respond to different oils.

2 - on the last 2 clips( from Australia ), and especially on the white car they tested, if you listen it is very clear the guy is reving the engines higher with that Nulon oil than the other oils. I am not so sure this was a completely biasd test? Maybe. I found it curious that the other 3 brands all returned varying results while the Nulon was consistant? Seems starange the other 3 would not be more consistant.

Overall seemed like a good test just a few HMMM's thrown in.

The Nulon dyno "tests" have been posted many times, but I haven't seen the Motul runs.......I remain fairly skeptical of dyno tests. I think they are much more influenced by humans and other variables than we know.

If ALL conditions were precisely controlled, the people involved absolutely did not know which oil was in the car (double blind), the tests (drain and refill) repeated 30-50 times, and then the means and standard deviations compared for statistical significant difference - then we would have something to discuss. These videos are just interesting marketing.
 
In responce to the 2 later videos comparing the 5 syns in the 2 different sports cars on a dyno.

I applaud the effort and the desire to tinker and experiment like that. Unfortunately, I think it was a lot of money and good oil wasted to learn very little useful information. Either way, interesting...

Hard to tell what they were dumping all that new oil into after the tests, looks like possibly the "used oil vat." Seems like an awful waste.... That testing would have been very expensive to do!

Unless one were trying to choose an oil to run say, on race day, for a relatively short race, I don't see how 2 dyno runs gives any meaningful amount of useful data. Problem is, the behavior of the oils could be just the opposite after 20 minutes on the track.

If I had been there on the day they were doing these tests, I would have told them to do just 2 more tests (before starting all of the other tests) and not even bother with all the fancy "rinse" drains to do them. One dyno run on straight 5 weight, and another on straight 50 weight. The results of said test would have hopefully prevented them from wasting all of that oil. Oh well....

The deviations in performance from one oil to the next on these dyno runs is, IMO, within the margin of error for such a small sampling. However, if one could argue that there is true meaning, then I would speculate that the performance variations can be linked to true operating viscosity variations at the time of the test.

Out of curiosity I pulled up the following:

Nulon 5w30:
@100C: 12.2

RP:
@100C: 11.0

Mobile 1:
@100C: 11.3

Edge:
@100C: 9.8

wish the manufactures listed HTHS... though I'm sure if I dug around on here I could probably find it... oh well.

Interesting that the thickest oil "won" the tests. (couldn't find data sheets for motul).

Motul 300V 5w30 (used in the Camaro LT1 and Evo VI tests) is 12.0 cSt at 100 C.

Motul 8100 Eco-Nergy 5w30 (used in the Lexus SC430 test) is 9.9 cSt at 100 C.

Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w-40 (used in the Commodore V8 test) is 14.0 cSt at 100 C.
 
i watched the original carefully when it came out over here

the motul at the beginning was NOT THE SAME as they poured into the engine at test time
 
what are you guys talking about?.....it's all [censored].

there just trying to sell oil!...that's it!

if any simple test like these are done,and if done properly,and purely to get HP results,then the oil with the lighter viscosity or less drag within the same grade will have the advantage.

...and even then,it doesn't mean it's the oil that will win a real race.

on these type of quick,ridiculous test,the elements within the oil are not even fully effective yet....not to mention about 100 other variables,and the fact that there lieing to you to SELL OIL.

.....and this coming from a guy who thinks motul is great oil.

it's still kinda fun to watch but painful to the synapses.

I wouldn't put any stock in those tests either. Wide margin for human error. Someone's foot on the gas pedal is not a controlled enough test.

They don't mention if the oil was ran cold or at optimal temp. Cold oil viscosity can yield different results every time.

In the comments he mentions waiting until the oil was at 80C or 90C each time.
