I started using Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic, and my oil got very dark at 3,000 miles, after stopping the use of Jiffy Lube Pennzoil, and Conoco 5w30, Castrol Syntec 5w30 from an independent mechanic shop, and I am now using Quaker State Synthetic Oil 5w30 with a Pureone Oil Filter, and it is now very, very black after 5,000 miles. The Air Filter is a Purolator, and I checked it today, it looks virtually brand new since replacing it in January, 2009. Yes, there is a little bit of dirt on the filter, but it looks like, to me, almost new, and I think it can continue to be in-service for many more months to come. I have been using the Nissan Frontier, since changing the air filter, oil, and oil filter, on an almost daily basis.
I plan on returning to Mobil 1 in my next oil change and putting another Purolator PureOne Filter on my Nissan.
IMO, I will stay with Mobil 1, and the Purolator Air Filter and PureOne Oil Filter on my Nissan. To me those products have given me excellent service.
For my Mustang, I use OEM Air Filters, Oil Filters, Oil, etc., because it is under a Ford Warranty, once that ends, I will change to what my Nissan is now using because I am very satisfied with Purolators' Performance in every area.
My opinion only...........
