I need a scan tool to program a new keylessfob for my pontiac grandprix. Can someone recommend a scantool that does keyfob programming?

Most manufacturer of scan tools have joined NASTF which means you have to be licensed and insured with a million dollar policy. You have to get a locksmith.

key fob on a grand prix isnt an immobilizer function and doesnt require VSP credentials. Any pro level tool that has RCDLR or BCM access depending on the year can program the fob.

According to my local Ace Hardware store many but not all can program a key fob unless it's German or some type of exotic car.

I had a local Ace hardware store cut the key part of a combo key/key fob. The key itself did not work. Got another blank key/key fob. This time took it to a real locksmith. He laughed for several minutes at how far off the Ace key was. Said they don't regularly calibrate they key cutting machines. He does his every 6 months

So lesson learned. If it's an expensive blank like a key/key fob I go to a locksmith, not Ace hardware.

If you use OEM scan tools, yes. If you use Chinese(Autel, ThinkCar, Topdon, XHorse), no NASTF needed in many cases if all you need is to replace keys - you’re just learning them into the immobilizer unit. XHorse has their service to generate security keys.

The OEMs still believe in security by obscurity - people are still getting their cars stolen with CAN bus attacks using a Arduino/Raspberry Pi with a CAN bus shield or via grabbing the immobilizer codes from a wireless key fob ping.
 
Box stores and Ace unless it’s an old school one use the same Hillman Axxess+ or Minute Key kiosk/machines.
We have found that the Ace hardware/Home Depot's of the world just clone the existing key. So the vehicle sees them as the same key. This gets fun with Fords when you do the 2 key key dance to add a third and it doesn't work because it thinks you are doing it with the same key.

Yea, it’s expecting two different hexadecimal values for each immobilizer pill/chip. Ilco/Kaba and XHorse/Autel all clone vs. write new values to a blank chip.

I think Hillman is using Ilco’s cloneable chip system.
 
What year is the Grand Prix?
MY02 and older have an on board process, MY03-MY08 require a scan tool

Any mid tier Autel/Launch/Snap On/TopDon should be able to do a simple keyfob
 
Bought new key/fob from northcastkeyless, had the key cut at Ace. Put it into the ignition just to see what would happen and while you could turn the key just fine, it otherwise did nothing. Got home and programmed the FOB with Forscan and it works just fine.
 
It will do some, it will not do all. Once ford transitioned from timed access PATS to coded access pats aftermarket tools get iffy. Had to use FDRS and my VSP credential to do a 2020 Transit last week. Autel and Forscan would not do it
I tried to use my ThinkCar to reprogram a fob on a 2016 Mustang, I hit a wall when it needed a code. I’m going to try FORScan but this might be something a locksmith or dealer tech with NASTF or IDS will need to do.
