I've decided to purchase a laptop scan tool and have narrowed things down to Alex Peper's and Auto Enginuity scan tools. They seem to offer a lot of bang for the buck and both support CAN bus. I also want something that will allow me to use it into the future with any vehicles. Alex's is much cheaper, so I'm leaning in that direction. Auto Enginuity seems to be a bit more user-friendly, however. Autoxray was far too expensive.

I was wondering if any members have either of these tools and could offer their opinions. Calls to each of these companies obviously produced biased assessments of their software. I thought there'd be much less bias in asking what BITOG members thought of these products.

I did look at that one, but it doesn’t have all that I want in one package. I want to be able to scan any OBD-II vehicle (including those that use or will use CAN), bi-directionality, and RS-232/USB interfacing.

I have a pretty large extended family with a lot of variety in cars

I've owned the Alex Peper tri product for almost four years. Works well, good support from Alex when required. I've not compared it to many others but I'm certainly satisfied with it.
Alex also offers (or did) significant discounts for group buys. IIRC it was something like 2% per person up to 20 people (40% off).

I have the Alex pepper, but make sure you have a capable laptop. If you have a GM app. the LS1M looks like a great deal.

I decided to go with Peper's Trican and am very pleased. He has great support, too. Now I just need to figure out what's wrong with my car. I went from very little data to being overwhelmed with data to sift through. The program's worked great so far!
