Sams club rant

I'm sure they get a lot of cheaters who come in on recently expired memberships to try and get a few more shopping trips without paying the membership.

What would prevent that from happening? People coming in and acting like they had no idea their card expired?

Simple.
Put the expiration date on the card.....

but...

That would potentially prevent people from coming in not knowing their card was expired and then being charged full price for membership renewal.
If people knew their card was expired they may not even go to the store (like me) that would be a guaranteed lose for the business.

Bottom line ... tis' Better for them to have a potential angry customer than no customer...

Well if the expiration date was on the card, then you'd have to get a new card when you renewed. Cheaper to keep using the same card. My BJ's card doesn't have an expiration date.

The angry customer is really a nut job. The customer should really know when it expires and if they don't they could always ask first before doing any shopping.

But the clueless always want things handed to them and always blame others for their problems.

We shop at Sam's club for a variety of reasons for personal and business. Consumables for the business. Their fruit and meet department here is really good. I buy a lot of bulk chicken breast pork loins
from there.

To the OP, for the month prior to the card expiring, if you shop there it pops up a message telling you the expiration date and a warning about it. They also sent snail mail and emails. If you don't shop there regularly, I understand your frustration but if your wife goes there regularly, she should have known. They were just following their policy and they do notify people before it expires.

I'll agree with the OP on this much, Sams issues no notice on when the card expires. I would know because I have had one of their Business cards since 1992 and have NEVER received any notice of expiration until I made a purchase. However, I did renew at the register.
Costco does issue an invoice should one wish to do so by mail. I generally save a stamp and do it when I go in the store.

Was thinking of SFO when I typed it

We are the land of fruits and nuts.

FWIW the workers at Costco seem to go out of their way to help customers. Had an issue with some LED T8/T12 tubes not working on my T12 housings. Fortunately I test fit one and not all 8. They were tossed aside and life got in the way. Ended up bringing them back 6+ months later without a receipt. They found the history of the sale but couldn't credit it to my AMEX since they only take Visa now. Gave me a gift card for the original sale price, more than the discounted price I paid for them.

I walked around for nearly an hour collecting the list of things.
Get to checkout and they say the card is expired. Only way to checkout is to pay the full membership cost.
No grace period at all, apparently it expired 11/16/16. Yet they let me in the store
There is always a deal for a Sams membership for over 50% off on Slick Deals, no way am I paying full price to these scammers
I ask why there is no expiration date on card. Had I known it was expired I wouldn't have even come to the store.
I say I would like to buy the items in cart and talk to my wife about membership later.
B says no.
I say alright this is crazy
I ask why they just wasted 1 hour of my life and won't allow me to checkout even though they checked my card as I entered the store?
Lady refuses to give me my expired card back.
I leave the store.
What the eff?

The world owes you nothing, pay up ace or go home. You went home.

No email or snail mail.

b.) You didn't know when your membership expired?
c.) You wouldn't have wasted an hour of your life if you simply went to the local grocery store.. preferably not last minute.

I don't see a logical reason to be upset with the store.

I worked 12 HR shift Wednesday got home and was asked to go to Sam's club. Also we were out of town until Tuesday 10pm. Snowed in 10hrs away.
I'm working 12 HR shift today, thanksgiving, and tomorrow as well.
The card is not mine. It is my wife's card, not mine. Even so how do you know the card is expired? Sure maybe she could have gotten an email in her junk mail and failed to mention it?
I wouldn't have gone there unless asked.

How is this Sam's fault??
