I finally narrowed it down to my iPhone 13 having Apple.. Tap to pay issues. switched back to my iPhone XR, it doesn't matter the merchant or adding a card to my wallet the tap feature works flawlessly first time every time with the 13 I had lots of issues at checkout terminals or vending machines and couldn't even add a card to my wallet by bumping the phone to the card. I was doing some Google/YouTube searches and found out there are sometimes issues with a defective or weak NFC module. I purchased the phone back in Sept so it is still covered under apple warranty anyone here familiar with sending a device to apple for a repair or is there a way I can trouble myself as in run the phone into a diagnostic mode? The nearest apple store to my location is a 2 hour ride one way.

Is there a Best Buy near you? They might be able to handle the problem for you.
yes. I just wouldn't like them opening up the phone I much rather this be done by apple especially the phone being a few months old and under warranty.

In my experience, even the Apple Store doesn't open yours up, they just exchange it for another one (refurb or new). I have an Apple Store here, customers line up 40-50 deep before it even opens (Kenwood Towne Center, Cincinnati)!

Can’t make this 💩 up

Call Apple tech support directly i
and let them tell you what to do if I’m reading your post correctly.
Hopefully it’s an easy solution for you. I suspect it will involve sending the unit back to them or possibly they may send you one first.
