That TSB belong in the trash bin!

Same here, concerning aftermarket filters.

Same here ... I have experienced no problems using aftermarket filters on my Elantra.

Ive used the xg9688 ultra on my 2012 veloster with no issues at all. Matter of fact ive used pur 1s and bosch premiums and puro synthetic with absolutely no issues to. That tsb is a bunch of bull....

That TSB is from 2008. As it relates to previous generations of Hyundai engines, I can assure everyone that we have observed significant start up rattle and engine knocking on vehicles using low quality oil filters in our dealership service department. Oil lights coming on at start up and flickering on acceleration are also common.
It is not a guarantee that aftermarket filters cause issues.

That XG isn't exactly gonna tell you when it goes into by-pass now is it?

The car isn't gonna feel any different if the filter goes into by-pass.

99% efficient at 20 microns means you only have a 1% chance of not getting clogged up

You're trying to sell boloney. The FU isn't gonna clog up unless it's used in a super sludged engine, just like any filter might. And if someone thinks they can run any filter (no matter how efficient or not) over say 3000 miles on a super dirty/sludged engine, then they don't understand filtration.

Do you really think Fram is going to rate the FU for 15K miles if they knew it was going to clog up even on some abused engines? There is plenty of design headroom in the ratings made by any filter manufacturer.

Man ... how many times are you gonna tell me FU?

Just put on the XG9688, 0 problems, no valve train noise at all. The car feels the same as it did with the OEM filter. It looks like a winner.

I think Fram may have modified the 9688 series for the the KIA/Hyundai engines a while back, not sure on that don't remember where I read it either.

I do know we have been using TG9688's on my daughters 2015 KIA without the slightest issue. Not surprised Fram is working well on your Sonata.

^^^ Not surprised either that it is working well ... I have used XG9688 (as well as other aftermarket filters) on my Elantra with no issues.

My mom no longer has the Elantra so I wont have a reason to buy an ultra for a while.

Never got a chance to try PYB in the sump either to see if it quiets the engine down. Quite depressing. Lol.

I strayed from the Hyundai OEM cartridge on our 2007 Santa Fe for the first time with the recent oil change. Fram TG9999. No rattling going on and filter looked identical to the Hyundai filter in every way. The Fram was also made in the USA, less expensive, and saves a trip to the stealership.

I'm curious about how the Fram ultra compares to the Hyundai OEM filter. Seems like they both have solid cans, silicone ADBV, metal end caps, and a sturdy metal center tube for support. All the features that you could want mechanically. I've heard that the OEM filter doesn't filter all that great, similar to an OCOD, but I've never seen any numbers here to back that up. However, I have seen great efficiency for the fram ultra, 99.5% @ 20 microns, and 50% at 5 microns.

Can anyone shed some light on the efficiency of the Hyundai filter?

I'd like to know this same info on the OEM filter as well! I've not been able to find any good info, but maybe somebody else has.

^^^^

I don't believe any one here knows. I suspect it may not be very good even though construction is excellent, much like the Toyota and Honda OEM filters with low efficiency.

For some reason OEM's typically don't advertise their filter efficiency. And trying to find out what it really is leads to dead end.

Looks like it 99.2% @ 50 microns. Fram Ultra is 99.5% @ 20 mincrons. The OEM is worse than the lowest end fram, at least in terms of filtration.
Agreed. And just what good is a 20 lb bypass vs the lower one on the Ultra?

I use the Ultra XG9688 on both of my Hyundais.

That spec did it for me. I could buy literally any other filter and it would do its job, FILTERING, better than the OEM. Fram Ultra wins.
