I had some left over from a lawnmower drain and fill. Was wondering if it would work well after soaked on a a few sheets of legal size paper to keep the teeth sharp.

Thanks.

Curious why so many mentions of vegetable oil?
Is it because cooking oil is available in all households or it doesn't have harsh chemicals?

What if I don't want any varnish on my shredder teeth and want high hths? J/K
I would think even WD-40 would do a great job but I know some say it's not a lubricant even though I've used it as lubricant on MANY different application and it does a great job.

To note ... don't spray it while the shredder is running. Might get a little "fireball" from the aerosols. Don't ask me how I know. 😄
good point! I spray a piece of paper, and i usually wait about 10-15 seconds for it to soak in the paper. I don't know what the propellant is, yours must have been propane lol.

Hope I remember this next time!

I had the shredder upside down because the teeth are easily accessible and visible and had to use a screwdriver to push in the safety latch/switch to make it run while I was spraying. lol

That's exactly what I did ... and "boom", got a nice fireball. Made my eyes go . Could happen with WD-40 too.

I had some Teflon spray lube that was handy and I used that.
I'm sure next time I may use WD-40 or I have couple of little oil bottles that came with my trimmers.

Maybe next I should follow the instructions (the picture on my shredder) and drip tiny amounts of vegetable oil. But hey we are on bitog because we don't follow owner's manual recommendations. :ROFLMAO:

btw, I don't see why op can't use his old oil. After all it's a 30 weight!

I don't see how you couldn't use motor oil. It would certainly perform better than vegetable oil!! Good lord that stuff gets sticky and goes rancid with age, motor oil certainly wont do that.

I used whatever was closest. Usually wound up as cooking oil. I just poured it out right into the teeth.

I'm guessing someone will come in with a reason to use Amsoil soon.
Amsoil...good thinking. I do have some Royal Purple air compressor oil lying around..maybe that's the way to go?
