This is a long but really cool video of Sabine in an E39 M5 being chased around the Nurburgring by a Porsche 996 GT3.

Boy can she drive!

[censored] that's fast, I would say that's about as fast as an E39 is going to go around that track.

I loved the episode of Top Gear when she was driving a van around the track and passing some pretty fast cars.

Unf. Boy, I wouldn't mind a E39 M5 to replace my CVLX. They are getting up there in age though. Be difficult to find a good example that isnt beat to [censored].

She was driving the BMW sponsored taxi. It a regular service to entertain the tourists. She would have had 3 passengers on board for the rid of their lives. She is billed as the world's fastest taxi driver and for very good reason, she's very good at this stuff.

She holds the record for that track with that car IIRC, which makes sense given how much she drove it. I believe she's currently driving the F10 M5.

You and me both.

finding a decent one isn't that hard. It's begin able to afford the maintenance and repairs to keep it in tops shape. THAT"s the challenging part

It really isn't that bad. More expensive than a Crown Vic or something sure but if the car is paid for, keeping it "at its best" isn't a huge financial outlay. They like tires and there will be some sensors that if they haven't failed yet, are going to. Other than that, the interior holds up like a boss, brakes last quite a while, suspension holds up well too, as do wheel bearings, the exhaust....etc.

The expensive things that will fail are the driveshaft and the clutch. I've done the clutch, I am in need of doing the driveshaft. It is cheaper to buy a reman shaft from Turner or Bav than get the multi-piece shaft repaired from what I've seen. Installing it is the big PITA because the entire exhaust system has to come off, not something easily done without a hoist.

Regular Clutch replacements is probably something I'd have to budget in as the last time I drove a stick it was a Saturn and that was several years ago.
lol

I was cruising the forum mentioned in the video and found a couple that looked in great shape. One was $17k and the other $21k. Don't know about paying that much for a 12 year old vehicle or who would finance something like that even with a decent down payment (25%)

I paid ~18K for mine.

The clutch doesn't wear out, the auto adjusting mechanism poops the bed which causes it to improperly engage. To get in there to replace it is involved and since the part itself is quite cheap, you might as well just replace it, which is what I did and most do.

You have to look at it this way. A new one is $90k, and will depreciate. An older one is only $20k and won't lose value as quickly. So the $20k is a bargain really.
