Same with waxy products. Oil and lanolin IMO are better in that regard.
What’s different about waxy products is that they can be topped off with an oil or lanolin type product to keep the wax from dying out and peeling off. This way the coating doesn’t wash off easily.

Oil products alone are super easy to wash off, until they mix with dirt and you build up few layers.

I don’t disagree. But reality is that an opening that forms is a wet pocket and water can displace oil or lanolin in the space, regardless of if it’s high wash or stagnant. Then you still have this wet area that is not good.

It can be a bigger liability than just topping off the oil.
