saw this on a diesel forum about duramax trucks what do you guys think? i did not post this someone else did....

"So I went to go get an oil change on my dad's truck today near Canutillo, TX (As you can imagine, this is close to the boarder). So, while waiting I noticed a drum of Royal Purple and asked the guy there where he ordered it from. He told me from corporate, then he said that it was a special formula specifically designed for the Border Patrol. There was a code on the side of the drum that read "USBP" (United States Border Patrol). He said that since they leave their vehicles running 24-7 and beat the [censored] out of them that they need that special blend. Also told me that we couldnt order it, even from their website. I looked and sure enough there was no USBP mention at all. But that I could buy it from him. I think I'm going to try it out next time I get a change. Anyone else heard of this?"

i never heard of special oil for gov vehicals have you guys?

Yep, Royal Purple WILL NOT spend all the money on R+D on a new, special oil that is better than there marketed product and keep it a secret. If they anyhting good, they would make money on it and sell it to us.

Its more than likely the same RP we buy sold as bulk oil at crazy prices.

Amsoil has a way better track record. you donot need a special oil to idle cars.

Those oil labeled specifically for the government usually have no tax in the price.

Aren't government vehicles required to run recycled oil or bio-oil? Or is that just limited to stuff like the USPS?

No to the recycled oil comment..

My fathers good friend owns the shop where all the USPS vehicles come in and have all the service work done on them.

They all take 10w30 mobil bulk oil. They are the chevy jeep looking mail trucks.

Probably just mil-spec relabeled RP, I can't imagine what they would add, it's a pretty strong Grp. IV Chevron basestock already, like Amsoil (AFAIK).

Grumman Long Life Vehicle is the name for those trucks. They were designed to last 40 years and be easily serviceable.

When the government services their own vehicles, as a policy, they use something like the Safety Kleen America's Choice unless Safety Kleen does not offer an adequate product.
