Royal Purple formula change

As you can see from the PQIA data, there has been a change in Royal Purple's formula. One version is the high sodium version similar to Valvoline Synpower and the other (newer version, I think) is a high Boron formula with moly. (which seems to be a better formula, IMO.) Does anybody know when this change happened? Does anybody know how to read the date code on Royal Purple bottles? I ask because I picked up several bottles of 10w30 on 'Clearance' at AA. I would prefer not to mix the high sodium (no moly or boron) formula with the moly/boron (no sodium) formula. I agree that the formula change you mentioned is for the better. I don't know when the formula changed though and I don't know about the date codes. Thank you for the information.

I believe you have it backwards. The higher moly/boron formula was purchased in 2016 while the higher sodium/synpower-esque formula was purchased in 2017. Between that and the recent UOAs posted with RP, it is safe to assume that any API certified RP purchased today will be the higher sodium formula that mirrors Valvoline SynPower. To get a high moly, low sodium formula of RP you have to purchase the non-API certified HMX or HPS line.

Here's a UOA posted by c5z06 two days ago running RP 5W-30 in his Colorado and it shows 4 ppm Moly and 5 ppm Boron with their nice dose of Sodium at 349 ppm. c5z06's UOA

I contacted RP but didn't get much out of them. They couldn't tell me which was the older product (didn't seem to know anything about the formula being changed).
