Guess I will need a little more oil with the RP filter. I checked out the Fram 3506 and it is even shorter than the P1. Why the different heights?

Different brands results in different filters for the same vehicle. Everyone has their own internal design ... a filter's size is not standardized for a particular vehicle.

Fram discontinued the 3675 and replaced it with the 3506 which is shorter than the 3675. Maybe shorter filter to save money on materials.

That seems to be the trend for some filters from all filter makers.

Yeah, the trend is shorten the filter to reduce cost. The current FL400S is about 1/2" shorter than previous one.
