I recently changed my differential fluids, transfer case and transmission fluid to Royal Purple in the appropriate grades on my 06 Xterra. Now when I accelerate between 60 and 65, I've developed a mild to significant shudder on the vehicle. The longer I drive at that speed, the more the shuddering seems to disapaite. The vibration/high frequency shuddering can be felt in the steering wheel as well as the seat of your pants. Any ideas?

Personally when i change diff, Trans, + PS on my own cars i use dealer bought lubes because they are often used and work well i am changing my Moms transmission fluid on her 04 Grand Marquis and getting motorcraft a.t.f. and filter from the dealer...
I have been in the engine rebuilding business for over 25 years and i have seen it all and realize in most cases use what belongs in there and it will work for a long long time..

I have no idea how drivetrain fluids would cause what you're describing, but did you make sure they're the correct types as well as grades? I would start by checking that just as a matter of course.

In my experiences transmissions are rear diffs are very finnicky about what you put in them. I experimented with a few and found that Amsoil was the absolute best! Especially in my car`s rear differential. RP made it hop,M1 made it whine, and I tried a few dinos and they just didn`t seem to make it quiet enough to my satisfaction. Amsoil in the rear diff makes it function flawlessly! Refill your fluids with Amsoil and see whatcha think.

No gear oil, t-case oil or manual transmission oil is going to cause a shudder at 60-65 going straight down the road as described. If anyone thinks so, then I invite them to precisely educate me as to how that happens. IMO, replacing the oil willy-nilly without any specific reason is just a waste of money and a grasp at straws of the highest order.

That said, if this is an automatic trans (the OP wasn't clear), then torque converter shudder COULD be an issue. As the converter clutch locks up it can momentarily chatter, causing a shuddering sensation. This CAN be due to the oil used, and is an issue with the additive pack (friction modifiers of the oil) being incompatible with the lining materials in the trans. I would double check that the RP oil meets the Nissan ATF standard for your year/model vehicle. Some ATs have the ability to lock out the converter (tow/haul?). If the Nissan has this feature, see if it goes away with the converter locked out. If nothing else, you can feel the converter locking and unlocking. If that's the time you get the shudder, you have the answer.

Would appreciate an update when you find the answer.

Assuming that NO other changes were made but the fluids, something is wrong or now just noticeable.

What are the vehicle requirements? What products did you use?

Double check the fluid level everywhere.

Probably have a part throttle(roll on throttle) TC shudder from the transmission. Start with a battery disconnect overnight.
Remember that older stock RP ATF is DexronIII and that newer stock is the multivehicle ATF. Hope you used the newer product.

If you have an LSD 'end, then toss in a bottle of LSD additive. Never noticed too much LSD shudder from Nissans since their LSDs seem to be weak anyway.

Did you change the fluid? or did you drop the vehicle off at a shop? If you didn't watch them add the RP fluid, you probably don't have it in the vehicle!

Add a bottle of Lubegard Platinum or Smartblend Titanium to the transmission.

Any drive train zerks begging for grease?

First off, I did the maintenance myself...making sure everything was filled properly....and nothing is leaking. I used the most recent version of RP's multi-vehicle formula ATF (meets Matic D which is recommended by Nissan). The rear differential is not a locking one. I just purchased and balanced tires for it earlier this week. I was hoping it was a tire issue and I held off posting about it until I eliminated a potential tire issue.

For the front and rear differentials I used RP 75W90 lube. The only place I strayed from the recommended fluid is that Nissan recommends 80W90 in the front. I can't imagine that small difference in viscosity would make a difference.

It's a 2006 Xterra which is sealed with no grease zerks that I could find.

I haven't had too many 4X4's in my life so I need to ask this. What does it feel like when you need new U joints?

Tires are oval or out of balance.

No, you misunderstood. The noise was there before the tire change. I wanted to get new tires and have the wheels rebalanced before posting the problem. If the noise would have went away, the tires would have been the problem
