For the third year running, Royal Purple® synthetic motor oil was the oil of choice for the winner of the Popular Hot Rodding Engine Masters Challenge. This year’s 3rd annual competition saw 50 engine builders vying for up to $100,000—with the top three finishers all using Royal Purple products.

Love those Fords. Let's see who knows their engines. The winner has an edge. A clue is the guy who made the most HP/torque (Dave Storlien)had the same edge in the 2002 challenge. Whats their edge??

I'd like to know what RP oil they are using.

I believe Terry and few others said their racing oils are top notch.

Well I happen to know the guy who finished 3rd, Tony Bischoff of BES Racing engines. I use him for induction work and I use his dyno. He's not only a dealer for Royal Purple, but he has it all over his shop so I'm certain it wasn't a money thing just for the event.

As for RP oil, I'm not convinced it's the best out there. I'm honestly quite intrigued by Torco's oil for an all out racing engine.

Just another note. I have not done any analysis on the RP oils, but I'd be curious to their consistancy from batch to batch.

One thing for certain, is the color is not consistant. No, not important, but something as simple as the color isn't consistant, what about the important stuff??

Ford358, that sounds like a good point ... until you really think about it.

Synthetic or dino, I don't know of a single brand of oil which has high color consistently.

I'm not sure where you get this statement.

I use Royal Purple 10W30 in three of my Ford modula V8s and there has never been the slightest indication of color changes from one quart of oil to the next - and, being an oil nut, I pay attention to that type of thing.

Unless you have a spectrometer handy, I'm not sure how you would notice slightly different shades from one to the next.

You're not sure where I get this statement? I believe I got it from my head, after considering my experiences with it in the last 3 years.

Let me tell you my experiences, since you have listed your experiences, giving you a sense of authority.

I buy it by the 5 gallon drum. I have bought in the last 3 years 15 drums. My math says that's about 75 gallons, at costs approaching 2000 dollars. That 'should' give me at least SOME authority in my claims.

Here are the types I have used. Racing 9, Racing 11, and Racing 11 lite.

So, back to my color statement. It is very easy to tell the shades of color when you are working with shiney aluminum heads, shiney aluminum oil pans, etc, etc, etc.... I definitely see shade variations. FURTHERMORE, I have had a couple drums of the same blend, that were not purple and purple at other times.

If I have offended you by my oil claims, I sincerely apologize.

I use RP21 for both my Z06 and 4Runner. I've used three 5 gallon containers over the last two years. Of the three 5 gallon containers that I have used, I could not tell a difference in color. I've done VOA's on all three to see if there was any variance by batch and they were all about the same.

Just my experience.

No, you haven't offended me in the slightest. Perhaps I offended you. If so, it wasn't my intention.

Anyhow, I don't have nearly as much experience with Royal Purple as you have, but I've used it quite a bit and I've never noticed the slightest difference in shades between one quart to the next. I buy it by the trunk full (about 12 cases at a time), but I predominantly use 10W30. I get it at distributor pricing and I buy it straight from the Royal Purple headquarters in Porter, Texas.

Are you seeing different color shades from one product to another? Or are you seeing differences, say, between two different batches of 10W30?

No problem.

The most significant difference I experienced was with 11 lite, in a 5 gallon drum. That is where I have seen it a typical oil type Amber color. At first I thought I was pouring my old used oil back in the engine.

It could have been a freak one time thing. Probably not worth worrying about.

"When he switched oils for the Final Eliminations Event using the exact same engine, Kaase was surprised to find that the motor ran at least 20 degrees cooler with Royal Purple®."

That one is VERY hard to believe......
