Hello everyone I believe this is my first post.
Ive been using Royal Purple a lil more than 2 years now. And now im starting to worry. I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier Ecotec. When I first started using RP it was great. 6 months later my engine blew up due to hyrdolock. I got another engine that had 30,000 miles on it. I ran 10-30 Regular Valvoline then I made the Switch to 10w30 Royal purple. Ive changed the oil 3 times with 10w30 Royal Purple and every time notice very very tiny metal shavings. I know RP claims to have an additive that is supposed smooth bearing surfaces and cylinders. Is that what its doing?

Ok now would anyone recommend running Royal Purple SAE 30 in the Summer? I live in Deep South Texas and Summers here range from 95-105 Degrees. Im also planning on running a 75 shot of Nitrous Oxide and want some advice. Royal Purple SAE 30 or 10w30 for nitrous? Royal Purple XPR 5w30?

I think you need to do a used oil analysis too see what is going on here.

What oil filter are you using.

You'll have no problems with the synthetic 30wt in Texas but if you can see metal in the oil, you have other more serious problems that no oil will fix.

I wouldn't bother with a used oil analysis, you can already see what's going on with your eyes.

I would call up Blackstone and they will send you a bottle.

Make sure the oil sample you take is after the engine has gotten warmed up.

Drive it till it dies.

Very tiny to your eyes is huge when it comes to engine wear.

They will be too big to show up in a used oil analysis anyway.

I'm not trying to scare you but unless you plan on tearing it down to find the source, I would drive it normally and pretend you don't know about it lol.

I'm a big believer in a synthetic straight weight oil and I agree with you there, but don't expect miracles from it.

Out of curiosity, are they flakes or is the oil sparkly?

The oil is sparkly. I went outside and checked the oil filter since its a cartridge and it looked fine. The pleats didnt have any shavings that were visible but shining the LED light at the oil revealed the sparkle in the oil. But huge flake no.

Im thinking normal wear. But after 3 oil changes of Royal Purple im starting to get worried. But i do remember watching a video of Royal Purple and its ability to smooth engine bearing surfaces. Maybe the previous owner of the engine didnt do proper oil changes or any oil changes? The engine only had 30,000 miles when it was installed. And i probably racked up about 15 to 20,000 since then.
