I live in the NE but plan not to drive on treated roads.
Advics high carbon
Bosch quite cast
Power Stop Geomet coated

Which one?

Is it worth spending additional $15 for the high carbon Advics rotors? It is supposed to help against warping.

The most important thing is how long you can deter rust, and the Geomet coating is the best at that. You want to be able to remove them easily when they're worn and need to be replaced. Geomet coated rotors will slide of without needing a hammer :D

I will chime in and say I've put Advics rotors on the last two brake jobs and have been highly impressed. They are not fully coated but the metallurgy is impeccable. My observation has been that when the unswept area rusts, it just develops a nice dark surface patina. The cheaper rotors and drums I've used in the past end up with that bright splotchy rust that flakes everywhere. I've noticed that Toyota OE drums also just develop that surface patina but aftermarket just flake everywhere so I think there's something about the metallurgy there. That being said, if you don't want to see rust at all, the Bosch are fully coated.

Were you able to get the worn Advics rotors off without using a hammer?

Advics is likely the OE manufacturer for the rotors on your listed cars. I've had no issues with quality. Many are made in the USA at the Waupaca Foundry.

Bosch seem to be good as well if the coating is important to you.

Toyota often has pretty good sales on parts with free shipping. I've found that I can usually get the Toyota dealer rotors cheaper than Advics from Rockauto with shipping.

Ductile vs regular gray cast most likely.

I feel like branding has become largely irrelevant. All the aftermarket brands have caved in to market pressures and outsourced their manufacturing to cheap labor markets. Back in the late 90's when I did autocross, I went through rotors faster than trhough socks. Until one day I bit the bullet and paid extra for a set of Brembo's. They arrived labeled "Made in Italy." I never had to change rotors again.

If you could guarantee that the Advics are made in Japan or the Bosch are made in Germany, then I'd pull the trigger. But it's impossible to find out until they show up, if at all. The best thing to do seems to be to buy genuine Toyota branded parts directly from an online Toyota dealer.

Just RA an order for Advics rotor and Z23 PS pads for the RX350 rear with 18k mi. Apparently the rears wear out 1st. By the way Advics 10% off till Oct 31 and trying to beat out the tariff China tariff.
Preparing to install the pads next spring 2026.
Lol.

COO for the rotors should be USA. This is from Advics catalog online.

I know it will be a while, but please update the thread with a review of the Z23 pads & Advics rotors after you have a chance to use them.

It won’t happen until 2030. lol. The RX350 has 18k and I primarily drive the 14 Venza. The plan is retirement in July 2026 which means annual driving is around 5k. This is 2.5k per car. I will clean the rear caliper pins next year and test out the Z23 and report on the original Lexus rotors.

I can report on the Z23 on Hawke Performance rotors. They are slightly terrible when cold but when warm grabby and confident stopping, no noise, vibration or dust. I have 1200 mi on them.

2014 Venza rear pads

I've used a few sets of coated PowerStops and I like them fine.

But yes, they are sourced from China if that's an issue.

Advics has Chinesium rotors now too. The paint finish is similar to the original Toyota rotors but the finish reminds me of your typical premium Chinese rotor.

Metallurgy is an unknown.
That’s disappointing. That said I’m still not overly fond of the powerstop stuff

Lexus dealer wants $147 for the Advics.
On RA they were $65 with the Oct 10% off and arriving Monday. I will post the country of origin and guarantee it will not be Japan.
