No...I wasn't "shopping around for a better deal"...I was shopping around on ROCKAUTO....trying to buy some filters, wipers etc...that shipped from the same warehouse to save on shipping costs....It's not exactly prudent to buy a filter for $3.99 and then spend another $3.99 to ship it...that's mainly the point of this thread....

I'm not sure what the deal is with Amazon, but they have always had a sort of horrible search interface. Sort by price just doesn't seem to ever quite work well.

I like Rock Auto's interface, it's very fast to find what you want and check out all the options.

Just bought a fuel pressure sensor from em, $3 shipping...

I think the root of Amazon's problem is items can be miscategorized. For example, if you browse "Brake pads" by vehicle, the default sorting is "Relevance" so you tend to see actual brake pads listed first. If you change to "Sort: Price low to high", at least in my experience, I'll see brake hardware, shims, slide bolts/pins, etc first because they're a) categorized under 'brake pads' and b) cheaper than actual pads.

Also, sometimes it seems like when you change the sort order, Amazon removes your vehicle filter, so it displays ALL parts vs just those that fit your vehicle.

I like how rockauto breaks down the parts list as you try and find what you need. But, when you order more than one thing, various warehouses and shipping costs turned me off. I've had really good luck buying maintenance items off of ebay. You got to do some research as far as what kind of seller they are and read some of the comments. Just about all my air filters for all my cars come from there at a fraction of the price of the other stores....I mean, a cabin filter runs about 20 or more. I can get the same exact thing, manufacturer and all, for about half of that and free shipping. I know some of ya'll will dog me on that but it's worked very well for me.

They cant charge OP extra shipping but they can just cancel his order.

I just placed another order at Rock Auto, 2 Wix oil filters, and 3 Wix air filters, and the shipping was $7.99. That's not bad.

I can't complain about Rock Autos web site. It might be old, but its easy to use. The whole shipping thing sucks. I don't understand there whole business model, but if they are thriving, don't expect a change. I would think just bring it under one roof, but that probably has its pros and cons to it too.

If I see I am going to get banged for shipping from more than one location, I shop around more and end up finding better deals sometimes. That's the beauty of pointing and clicking to shop.
