While looking for a new wheel bearing for my 97 Subie on rockauto.com I noticed they carried a complete hub assembly for not too much more money. I didn't do my research (I know

) and purchased the hub assembly right away, thinking I was slick by saving myself the headache of having to press in the new bearing.

Long story short, I should have done my research, and figured out that what they were offering was for a FWD Subie - Subaru went all AWD in '96+ MY's. I explained the mistake in an email to Rockauto's customer service and, within a day, had a reply apologizing for the catalog error. They're paying to have it returned along with a full refund.

I expected a headache, but rockauto made it incredibly easy. I'll make sure to think of them first when I need parts in the future.

Their warehouse added a digit to a brake drum part number in my order once. Called them and offered I'd return them if they paid the freight. They said keep 'em. Of course they shipped out the right parts too.

I just had to do 2 returns to them in the last couple of weeks, and both were pretty painless.
A couple of weeks ago, I had to return 2 brake rotors that I didn't need. (Old ones were perfect, no pulsation, and mic'd out within spec only 36k on the car)

I also had to return a defective cat back to them 2 days ago.
Just called them and got a return authorization.

Even the shipping was no problem. I send it back through FedEx, just like they sent it to me, unboxed. No problem.

Had a foglamp assembly that failed within a month of purchasing and installing (seal failed between the lens and body of the lamp allowing water into the housing).

Wrote Rockauto and within 1/2 a day had an authorized return under warranty and the replacement part shipped the same day the old one was recieved. Not quite as convenient as a local exchange, but there was no hassling from Rockauto. I paid shipping on the return part, Rockauto paid for the replacement shipping.

Pretty easy company to do business with. Be warned though that your parts (if multiple pieces) may ship from multiple vendors and locations. If you have to do a return on all of them, they go back to each of the vendors - not one common point. Has not been a problem for me, btu something to consider.

Sounds like they're coming around. My experience with them is they wouldn't even accept their error, let alone do anything to correct it. But that was a few years ago.
