What is the differance in performance between red line and pp. I mean why would someone other than price, buy one over the other.

You really can not compare the two!! It would be like compareing Scotty Hamil to the girl that teach's ice skateing localy. Two different catagories of oils! PP is made to a price point and is an OTC API certified oil. Redline is made useing nothing but ester basestocks and with additive levels so high that their is no way it could ever be API certified. Redline is designed to protect under the harshest conditions and extremes whiel PP is designed to give plenty of protection for a daily driver under normal conditions. Redline will take more heat and pressure then PP could ever hope to!

Thank you John for the info. It has really given me answers to alot of Questions I've had.

RedLine has the most expensive Ester base and a heavy duty additive base. PP is a group III. Not a true synthetic. RedLine is just a better oil period. There are a couple very knowledgeable peeps on this board that have indicated the durability of RedLine.

Theres also the "anal" factor. If you're anal about what goes in your engine and want the absolute best though possibly overkill go with .

I've read a few posts on here, and from a few articles that really emphasis the importance of additives more so than baseoils. RL has both a great base oil and additives. One of the articles talked about eventually coming to a point where esters are no longer needed in motor oil.

Be it Grp III, IV or V it is all synthetic according to the industry and the definition. You can make poor oils from any base stock and you can build great oils with the right knowledge.

I realize that I am obviously biased but easily stand by the PP.

"Team Leader
Shell/Pennzoil/Quaker State R&D '

Perhaps you can tell us what the meaningful, not marketing, differences are between Formula Shell, Quaker State and Pennzoil conventional oils.
