RL MT-90 or Amsoil MTG?

How do these two stack up against each other? In the specs, does either of the two have a benefit in minimizing whine in Manual transmissions? Has anyone used both and decided on one or the other?
Thanks,
Motoretro

I've been using the Amsoil MTG for the last year and a half. I drained the factory fill at 7500 and have been using it ever since. There was a noticeable difference in shifting almost immediately. I wouldn't hesitate using this lubricant again.

I tried both in my old car, a 1995 Nissan Maxima. I definitely preferred the Amsoil. Shift feel was about the same for both fluids when they were new and in warm weather, but the Amsoil was way better in the cold and retained its performance better as the miles piled on. I didn't notice any difference in noise, but that was a quiet transmission overall -- the only time it ever made noise was when it was failing.

Motoretro,

What's the app?

FYI - I have a Redline mix in my '06 Mazda transaxle - 2 qts MT90 and 1 qt MTL. It shifts great in all temps.

After using both, I feel the MTG is a tick better overall than the MT-90 for the same reasons mentioned above. I don't know how they compare exactly in price, but the MTG ain't cheap. They are both good products IMO.

I've used the MT-90 ... but I don't think you could go wrong with either fluid.

I've become a bit of a Red Line skeptic in the past couple of years so I'd probably pick the Amsoil. Plus, there are two Amsoil dealers that sponsor this site ... which would be enough of a consideration for me to tip a close call one way or the other.

just drained oem nissan 75w85 after a auto-rx clean and added mt90. feels pretty good, smoother than the oem fluid. i only went with the redline because i could get it in town.

I have used both and i prefer amsoil all the way. The amsoil continue to deliver smothness in shifting much longer than redline.

Good choice Motoretro! I`ve tried both,MT90 and MTG. The bad effect I had with MT90 is that once the transmission got good and hot,the shifter got really stiff and hard to move. With MTG,the hotter the transmission, the more "buttery smooth" the shifter feels. With MTG,I can literally speed shift through all the gears with my pinky finger, whereas with MT90,it would get so stiff that sometimes it`d get stuck in neutral instead of slipping into the next gear. Just my experience though.

It's not just about viscosity being consistent over temp. It's about friction characteristics, shear resistance, tolerance to contamination, and other such stuff.

MTL is not MT-90.
MTL is much thinner than MT-90 or the Amsoil product.
