Rivian Amazon delivery van

I was in Bloomington-Normal today. On my way home, I saw a new Rivian Amazon delivery van on a trailer. If you don’t know, that’s where they’re made. Thought it unusual to see only one being delivered at a time. I haven’t seen many with Amazon graphics. I have seen many white Amazon vans labeled as delivery vans. The highlight of another winter day.

I’ve seen Amazon drivers get out of what looked like personal cars. I guess they’re co tracked and use their own cars, but it would seem to limit how much they can deliver.

A few years back I remember a shuttered shopping center turned into an Amazon logistics center. Mostly Budget marked vans.

I worked brief for an Amazon Delivery Service Provider as they are called. Its a very weird partnership where someone locally owns the company, but Amazon tells you what to do for everything. They were starting to roll out the Rivian before I left. I kept in touch with one coworker who told me the first wave had issues where the vehicle would forget its not charging when you unplugged it. After that, only issue is that its a heavier vehicle with small tires so it has gotten stuck in places the Transits and the Promasters don't.

I first saw them in the St.Louis area a year or two ago.

Locally, we went from blue Ram Promasters, then to blue Ford Transits. Now they're driving mostly Budget rentals (mostly white Transits).

Last year Amazon opened their last-mile delivery center in Ottawa. That’s when I started seeing the white rental vans, occasionally a blue van.

Those have been coming to my house at all hours for at least a year.

I never thought I'd see them here because of the shorter range, but when I get Amazon deliveries that come from Madison, they do use them to deliver to me. I was surprised since they're only rated for around 120 miles and its 60 miles round trip to me if they didn't have other deliveries in my area. I know there's no fast charging in my town.
