RIP Pete Rose

I grew up a fan of The Big Red Machine and Pete Rose is probably my favorite. What he did on the field, he absolutely MUST be in the Hall of Fame. I've said it for a decade+ though, that "they" will never let him in while he's alive.... They'll wait until he's dead and then let him in. Vote will probably be unanimous too.

Now that it's been announced, he won't be eligible for the regular Baseball Writers of America ballot. It's going to be by a committee for the "Contemporary Era" with just 16 voters. Not sure exactly how that goes, but they meet later this year.

Is there a place to bet on whether or not he will be inducted? Is it only OK if you put your money on "yes"?

One more time......and I'll be brief.
Pete Rose broke the biggest rule baseball has. He did so repeatedly and giggled and lied about it for decades.
What he did jeopardized EVERYBODY'S BREAD AND BUTTER.

Why so many 'good people' ignore this huge fact is beyond me.
I'll guess it's because, in their minds, he didn't jeopardize THEIR bread and butter.

How advantageous -and comforting- it is to be insulated from the impact of others' wrongdoing.

Check Vegas betting places. They take bets on literally everything.

Nevada sportsbooks are restricted to sports related betting. Now UK books have bets on everything. I recall there was one bet made on whether life on another planet would be discovered within a certain period of time. William Hill paid out when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.

William Hill has taken on many seemingly outlandish bets over past 50 years, some of which have resulted in big payouts.
In the early 1960s the bookmaker offered odds of 1000/1 that man would walk on the moon before 1970, and was forced to pay the equivalent of 1 million pounds ($2 million) to its customers.

Few people are any more at a time when professional sports leagues allow gambling ads.

On the field, he still holds the record for the most hits, he's won the batting title three times, two Gold Gloves, most games played in, made the All-Star team 15+ times. Now that he's eligible, we'll just have to see what the voting committee decides....

I’m a bit more interested in dealing with the fixers in the Wall Street casino than a ball player …
Exactly. Him betting on baseball doesn't impact any one of us in any way (unless you were betting on the same games !!).
