RIP Pete Rose

RIP Pete Charlie Hustle Rose, yes he belongs in the HOF as does Shoeless Joe Jackson.

I grew up a fan of The Big Red Machine and Pete Rose is probably my favorite. What he did on the field, he absolutely MUST be in the Hall of Fame. I've said it for a decade+ though, that "they" will never let him in while he's alive.... They'll wait until he's dead and then let him in. Vote will probably be unanimous too.

I was never really into baseball, but I did attend a celebrity game with my dad. Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Don Rickles, Mickey Rooney and a few others played. Later in life, I got to know of Pete Rose, though I never followed his career closely. Like most people, I remember the scandal, but that was about it. Yeah, I’m kinda old at this point. ✌️

I'm not saying it was "out of character" for Pete.
There was just no need...
It could be said, however, that Fosse was just as much a hothead as Pete Rose. He was on the DL more than once because of broken bones in his hand, caused by fighting on the field and in the locker room. He was injury prone and once missed a large part of a season because he fell at a spring training ballpark. He played until 1979 but to blame Pete Rose for all his problems doesn't tell the whole story.

Pete bet on baseball and his own team at a time when EVERYONE involved in MLB KNEW that was like a trip to the electric chair….

He did that anyway.

Then he proceeded to lie about it for YEARS…

If that man had owned what he had done right away I think it may have helped him a good bit.

Pete falls into the same group of other baseball players who may not ever get into the HOF…

Barry Bonds, Mark Mc Gwire, Roger Clements, etc etc etc. .

And let’s be clear…..

This stupid legalization betting on “ pro “ sports… At some point… It will happen again that .

Games will be rigged, players or referees paid off… Coaches paid off for point shaving or throwing games… players being paid off to throw a game…

Just like baseball had happen over 100 years ago.

Agree with many. He should be in the HOF. With what goes in baseball and many sports these days, I feel gambling is minor. Just my humble opinion. I loved how he played the game.
