Right vs. left fuelling

I see it at Costco all the time. The attendants are always walking the lineup trying to get people to use the other side.

I don't like filling from the "wrong side" because I don't like the hose rubbing and banging on the paint.
I just hold it up, yes not as convenient as doing it on the correct side but I can do without hurting the paint.

I prefer the stations where the pumps are perpendicular to the building and you can pull into them on either side, as appropriate for whatever your car needs. The old model of a long line of pumps in a row gets cumbersome when half the cars have to come around to the "other" side.
This. The stations with issues are where you can just drive into the islands from the station entrance.

The Malibu is passenger side too. Over here wasting my life away playing gas pump Tetris and walking around the vehicle. Hate it.
That's a good way to describe it - Tetris! I just have stations I use that seem to always be easy for it and avoid the others that are a pain.

Can't speak for all stations around here but the ones I go to, are very easy to pull in on either side.

Weight distribution of particular vehicles may vary, but all else equal, tank on passenger side with passenger side fill is superior, and for US vehicles that passenger side is on the right. It's due to not having that weight on same side as the driver. The rest of the load weight distribution is always a variable but the one constant is there's going to be a driver on the left side on (passenger) vehicles designed for the US market.

That doesn't mean a vehicle can't be designed to factor this in and put more weight besides the tank on the right side to balance it out for vehicles with driver's side tanks, but I haven't seen evidence that they do and I don't see all that much data in the way of left/right weight distribution like you sometimes see for front/rear.

We only have 1 vehicle that is RF, my Daughter drives it, haven't heard her complaint about but not like anything can be done about it.

It's a subtle thing but you will find stations that are more challenging to use quickly. Brand new Sheetz 2 miles from my house, amazing! So happy! Has E85 yay! I gave up after the first week trying to fuel there, a total disaster. Huge amounts of people and drive-in straight to the island design and tight fuel island traffic flow in general said forget it.

Off the top of my head I think every vehicle I’ve ever owned had the fuel door on the drivers side except for my 2015 Volt and 1977 Suburban? I’ve owned over a dozen GMs and Fords.

Umm.....you DO realize you can pull out the hose from the point under the "15" in your photo and easily reach around to the other side. I do that with a full size van without a problem. The hose it only rigidly attached at the left side. You see the curved portion of the hose hanging down in the center?
ummm...yes...I noted in my OP that you can fill from either side at Costco but why do that when nobody is in the right-side lanes? Guess you umissed that?

I don't have an issue with my right hand fuel door on my VW until I open the door and it says 91+ octane recommended. After I see that my wallet hurts...

Didn't miss it, just see your photo at a Kirkland station, not Costco. Maybe I didn't understand the purpose of the post. If you posted a photo at Costco with the hose reaching the other side, I'd get your point about people waiting in line to get a pump with the hose on the same side as their fill cap.;)

My Saab fuels from the right side. Generally cars fuel from the side opposite the hot exhaust outlet.

I'm left handed so I have felt the sting of r/l discrimination all my life. For example;

in grammar school desks were all for right handed students.
ball point pens tend to smear ink across the paper for lefties
scissors and lots of tools are made for right handed use
while playing high school baseball I could either pitch, play 1st base or outfield. No infield or catcher.
the French word 'gauche' means left side, in English it means awkward, clumsy
lefthanded people have different brainstem anatomy from right handed people
the list goes on but the point is made, there is discrimination everywhere.

Just deal with it.

Costco pump handles don’t like being used upside down which is what I have to do on my MB suv. Want to have fun…fill up a Harley ora gas can at Costco.
