Saw this under Similar threads and wanted to add my reuse story.
I have a new ‘23 Toyota that uses 0w-20. DW’s 07 RAV4 has the consumption issue in the 2.4L 4 banger. At its worst, I was adding 1 qt every 500 miles. We bought the R4 brand new, and I take good care of vehicles. I attribute the advanced consumption to short tripping. At time time of testing with Toyota, they claimed the amount of consumption was normal, within their threshold.
Starting 2 years ago, I would do an oil change on the new vehicle, save it and add to the R4. The oil is generally good. I also sometimes drain some out and add new, and use what I drained out for the R4 whenever it needed it. Taking oil out from the new Yota is easy because I replaced the plastic cover bolts with winged bolts, and replaced the drain plug with a Fumoto valve.
I don’t do that anymore. I recently drained out all oil and replaced it with VRP, OC cycle 1.
