When cleaning a reusable air filter(K&N/AFE)after many miles on it does the filter media start degrade even after one cleaning.I would think that the water itself would effect the filtering material.I myself have tried K&N/AirAid and I've heard that paper filters much better but with more restriction.Joe

I use a Fram Air hog air filter and have the cleaning kit. I reuse the filter over and over. I just rinse under a hose and apply the cleaner product. Works fine for me. I don't know about the K&N reusable Filter.

I tried the re-usable filter. Cleaning was big messy hassle. Then re-oiling was an art and I was not an artist, get too much oil and can mess up the air sensor, make car run like garbage, all for extra air flow that only a high performance vehicle run at high rpms likely would see any benefit.

I have three reusable filters that were used once (about 20,000 or so miles each) anyone can have cheap, like free.

I now use disposable oil-wetted paper filters from Fram, can't remember the name.

E30 came with a (self oiling at times) cotton filter of the rock catcher, optionally oiled type.

Bought a K and N kit, and it was pretty OK to clean and re-oil

There have been some before/after filtration tests posted in various places over the years, where filter efficiency was tested before and after proper cleaning and after improper cleaning. None of those tests are still up that I have found, but a dedicated searcher might be able to find them. There was a slight deterioration with a proper cleaning and a big drop with an improper one. One was from AEM that reflected rather poorly on K&N but since K&N and AEM are under the same flag now, those SWRI tests are no longer on the site.

terrible fitment on my car! i wasted $30 on a pro dry s only to have to trash it because it did not fit AT ALL. never in my life had i ever had a problem with air filter fitment before that. and when i emailed the company with pictures they didn't try to do anything to make it right. basically just told me they'd look into it. well that doesn't put money back in my pocket.

i would maybe try a different brand like fram or aem if you're set on getting a reuseable.
