E-Golf went in for annual inspection and brake fluid exchange today at my usual VW dealer. Salesperson who sold me my E-Golf had recently transferred to this dealer so popped in to say hey to him and chit chat about the ID.4 as I'll be ready in February/March to trade the E-Golf in.

I have been tremendously happy with my first VW electric, the 84 (when new) range of my E-Golf has been workable (98% of my drives) but places some limitations on longer in town errands and is an absolute no for anything outside the Atlanta metro. I am having to fly to Savannah weekend after Thanksgiving to meet my folks there for some sightseeing because I can't use the TDI that weekend and rental cars are just as much if not more than flying, the ID.4 could most likely make it there if speeds were kept sane and could charge while there.

Well $100 puts my name in line for the factory, then once my name is up for order (~3 week wait time) I can then "lock" my order for $400 which puts it in line for production (2-3 months), once done hops the boat from Germany (4-6 weeks), then transit from port to dealer (lets say 2 weeks). Long wait......but guess it puts me in my projected timeframe.

What I ordered - ID.4 Pro RWD (this is the base model lease special). MSRP $39,995. Moonstone Gray with black interior. Should look something like this when it shows up sometime in 1Q 2021. :ROFLMAO:

Very nice, I've seen a couple on the road. My wife even noticed one, now that's saying something.

I'm not aware of anyone here on the board having one. You need to give us the full skinny run down when you get it.

Long time ago I inquired about purchasing a BMW 2002ti. Had to go to a Mercedes dealer that bootlegged BMWs from Germany. Only the carbureted model was for sale in the US. Sales dude told me I could make a deposit on a ti model but I'd have to go to Bavaria to pick it up. I declined and years later bought a used one. I don't have that kind of patience. Waiting 4+ months for a vehicle to be born is about the gestational period of this creature;

They are still pretty rare, I have probably seen a dozen in the wild since they have come out. Seems to be mostly production bottlenecks as VW is only moving ~6k units per quarter which seems to be as fast as they can get them from Germany.

Definitely will do a full run down once it comes in!

I saw my first one Thursday night...we were leaving the parking garage at the Target in Waikiki and it was in front of me. It looked sick.

LOL! Fortunately I am in no pressing rush for a replacement car so the wait is not a deal killer for me, not to mention this will be the first new car for me that will have my name tagged to it from the factory so no sitting on the dealer lot stagnant or having other folks poking around and/or test driving it before I take delivery.

@pezzy84 - Are they selling this to you at MSRP? Does it qualify for the tax credit? I've been thinking something electric makes sense for my next car and this checks all the boxes.

I'd love to own an iD3 but VW are not officially selling them in NZ yet. They can be imported privately but support would be nearly non-existent, not a good thing considering how many updates my Kona has endured in the last three years.

I am generally not in favor of subsidies, but if our tax dollars are gonna be used than at least the vehicle should be made in America. The Bolt, for example, is made in Korea to some extent and then finished here. That don't cut it for me. The same with the Mach-E, which is built in Mexico.

Just my 2 cents.
