Renting a 2010 Chevy Malibu

Underpowered? Again holding this months issue of Motortrend the Malibu 4 cyl is compared to 6 other 4 cyl cars. The 'boo and Camry tie for last in HP(169). For comparison the Accord puts out 190, new sonata 200.

When someone throws out a MPG observation I realize driving conditions affect them. The OP didn't elaborate this was mixed driving, city, or highway. If it was ALL city, the mpgs are OK, otherwise I think it's pretty sucky.
 
The Malibu's steering wheel is a bit big for me. Do you feel the same?

22 sounds about right in all city. My mom gets about 24-25 mixed in her 2010 Altima V6 fwiw.
 
FWIW, I don't have anything against the 'boo. It looks as though GM's made great strides in improving it's looks and build quality over the previous gens.
 
I rented one when I was in NC and I was unimpressed.

- Engine very buzzy and lacked power
- Uncomfortable seats, even for driving 30 mins
- Interior has waaaaay too much glossy plastic
- Squeaky dashboard over any small bumps in the road

I didn't pay attention to the gas mileage cause I was on vacation, but I bet it couldn't break 25 MPG on the highway.

I could pick this car apart too if I compared it to my Lexus. But for a general run around vehicle that is still comfortable enough to take a trip out to see my daughter @ IUP,I still give it a thumbs up.
 
When I looked at one,the only complaint I have was that the plastic around the radio is a little onthe flimsy side, I can push it in and it visibly moves. But beyond that, it was excellent. Attractive looking, and a solid powertrain.

I know,but even my Father-in-law`s Lincoln MKZ has the kinda [censored] interior,lots of plastic,drab color etc.

Weeelllll,I`m not going their.They put the Buick Enclave up against a Lexus too.I am not going to bash any American vehicles.I may even be supporting them again in the future.(by buying one) but who knows what the future brings these day`s we could be nuked in our sleep! and I really like my RX.

The 2002 Malibu (3.1 V6) I have experience with (4-spd auto) gets low to mid 30's on the highway. I'd be amazed and kind of disappointed if the 2010 Malibu 4-cylinder with a 6-spd auto didn't get at least that.

Well it`s up to 22mpg`s now.

So do the body panels on my kid's '03 or '04 Honda Accord. That thing reeks of cheap / flimsy construction.

I was talking about the flimsy body parts - doors, fenders and the like.
 
Called a friend of mine, he has a 2010 Malibu LTZ with the 4cyl/6spd auto combo. He has 6500 miles on it and says he is averaging 26.6 with a mix of city and highway use of about 70/30. Not too bad in my book.
