National seems to have bought a ton of Tucsons and Rogues, the last couple times I've rented that's pretty much all that has been on the lot...and they all seem to be base models which is very unlike National. Recently drove CR-V, Tucson and Rogue, and I have to say I think the Rogue is the best and well rounded of the three. I have rented them before, but this is the first I've had the 3 cylinder, 1.5T with variable compression ratio. With a CVT behind it, I can't see this powertrain combo appealing to the BITOG crowd. The engine is tiny in the engine bay and has the smallest oil fill cap I've ever seen.

Pros - Steering, handling, ride and brakes are all good. I like the powertrain combo, it has plenty of power for normal driving, I wouldn't try racing a Hellcat but for merging, passing and climbing hills it has enough power for the average driver. Dash was nice and well laid out, I liked the soft touch materials. All ports are USB-C.

Cons - The door panels had soft touch where you would rest your elbow, but the rest was cheap, hard plastic. There were a number of noises coming from the trim, rattles and rubbing sounds. No wireless Android Auto or Car Play, which at this point should be standard equipment on all cars. The seats were okay, but after about 30 mins I was getting a little uncomfortable.

Bottom line, makes a great rental but I wouldn't consider buying one.

Nissan has had a lot of issues with these variable compression turbo engines.

Alas, I did have a rental Rogue last year, too, and thought it drove very well. It had more pep than my Crosstrek. My main gripe with it was Android Auto integration - it would randomly disconnect or stop working. The seats were a bit odd, too - it felt like you were sitting on top of them instead of in them. If this is what they call "zero gravity" seats, I'm not a fan.

I had a rogue rental in tx recently. No real complaints, ac was usually good, though the vent placement was funny. Mine had Apple car play which worked quite well…

Forgot to mention, I didn't like the placement of the start button low in the center console, I kept reaching up to the right of the steering wheel where it is in most cars. Not a huge deal.

I like the Rogue. ATMOF, I like Nissan vehicles overall. I like them in everyday driving, they're easy to live with IMHO. I especially like the Rogue interior in the upper trim levels with the more rich colors. They can get pricey however but they should be obtainable for le$$ as most Nissan are.

I know what you mean about the Start/Stop button placement. My '23 Venza is in the same location but it intrudes more into the cubby(below the HVAC) than the Rogue's button.

That console immediately puts it on the 'would never consider' list.

Jeez, why not just put up a pony wall in the middle of the passenger compartment?

The only Rogue I've driven was in Iceland as a rental for a couple weeks, except across the pond they're named "Qashqai".

Ours had a 4-cyl diesel and a proper manual gearbox, an awesome combo that I wish they'd have brought over.

Enjoyed that little SUV and the epic, other-worldly scenery of Iceland in winter.

My sister owns a Rogue here and she loves it.

I'm thinking the CVT problems have been finally addressed? This new engine? I would be on board if it matched the durability and longevity of Datsuns/Nissans of yesteryear.

Rogue and Qahqai are different vehicle. We did rent a Rogue (called the X-Trail there) in Costa Rica a few weeks back. It drove fine, the AC was fine, but it didn't like the rough condition of some of the roads.

I looked at them before I bought my Subaru. Just could not get pass the 3 cyl. turbo engine. Just me. They are a nice looking vehicle.

The top trim Rogue has the best interior quality in the segment (compared to non-premium entries)

I don't mind 3-cylinder engines as they have a unique character (I have one in my bike), but I'd only lease it if it is made by Nissan. The variable compression engine is too risky step for a brand with a questionable reliability track record.

It's a "thing" with him with any vehicle that has one....
I'll join him!

Yes, we are split bench seat lovers. Center consoles are unnecessary, ridiculous and intrusive - most of the time.

I laugh at light duty trucks with buckets and a 2 ft wide console.

"Let me throw my tool box across to the passenger footwell" - as I smash that plastic junk to pieces!

The last Ford Taurus was the worst, made the car narrower up front than their compact car - the Fusion - tiered below it.
